Shopping around the World and Cat World Domination Day

Once again we're pawticipating in Piglove's Shopping Around the World
This month we received a suggestion from our friends Reilly and Denny with Cowspotdog. This month we are pricing FIVE items from two different stores for price comparisons in your area.  Now, we are going to make this kind of easy.  FIVE items of your choice in making a meal.  Of course, you can use more than FIVE items to make your meal but you have to price comparison shop FIVE items from TWO different stores.  Got it?  And as always, pictures and recipes are greatly appreciated for our viewing pleasure… and of course licking the computer screen – snorts.  Happy shopping my friends.

Here's the recipe:
Jalapeno Popper Chicken:

3 chicken breasts
a sprinkle of cumin (I used about 1/2 tsp)
a sprinkle of chili powder (I used about 1/2 tsp)
a light sprinkle of salt
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 jalapenos, seeded and chopped (we are wimps so we just used 1 but I recommend 3)
4 oz full fat cream cheese
3/4 cup chicken broth
3 slices of bacon, chopped
1 TBSP chopped fresh cilantro (can use 1 tsp dried but I don't recommend)
3/4 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Pan fry the bacon until crisp.  Remove the bacon with a slotted spoon but leave grease.  Sprinkle cumin, chili and salt on each side of chicken breasts and pan fry in the bacon grease until cooked through, flipping half way.  Remove chicken and keep warm.      Throw chopped jalapeno and garlic in pan and cook for approximately 2 minutes over medium heat.  Add chicken broth, scraping and deglazing the leftover yummies in the pan.  Add cream cheese and stir in until melted.  Add shredded cheddar and stir until melted.  Add bacon crumbles and cilantro, stirring through for a minute or so.  Spoon sauce over chicken.  Serves 3

And.here are our five items:

Boneless Chicken Breast:    Publix  $3.32/lb        Winn Dixie  $4.29

Garlic: Publix $3.29/lb                  Winn Dixie  .69 each ($4.14/lb)

Jalapeno Peppers:     Publix   $2.49/lb                                 Winn Dixie  $2.49

Cream Cheese:  Publix....$2.95                             Winn Dixie  $2.99

Graphic is Swanson,we priced store brand.

Chicken Broth:    Publix .95                                    Winn Dixie  .99

What Mom thought was interesting is that so many people think Publix is more expensive and she's  ALWAYS thought the quality was better and the prices are too....guess this proves it!!

Today is also Cat World Domination Day (isn't every day?) which was started by our pal Sparkle before she left for the Bridge.  Summer is continuing it!

Wow, that looks yummy! And it sounds like it is really easy to make!

Thanks for spreading the word about Cat World Domination Day!

that's a super recipe... but I think we join the "wimp-crew" and use just one jalapeno :o)
I agree, sometimes the quality is really better at the expensive stores, I accidentally bought a buffalo mozzarella instead the common cheap thingy... and wow... that was a difference! I fortunately still had the bag in my hand as I checked the slip, so I could breath in that bag before I swooned... the price was different too.... uhoh!

Yummy recipe - we bet Mom would love that (minus the cumin). We don't have either of those stores here, but there is always plenty of price variation from one store to the next. Thanks for sharing.

I couldn't eat this dish, but I know someone who would like it, so I'll pass on your recipe to him!

It always interests me to see the prices around the world. Thanks for sharing :)

Our dad would love that chicken dish. Mom not so much. She's not a big fan spicy things or cilantro. It's interesting to see the price differences. Thanks for sharing.
