Today is Shopping Around the world with our pal Bacon from PigLove
This month's Shopping Around the World feature is SANDWICHES! YUM-A-ROO....we LOVE sandwiches around here. Mom's favorite sandwich is a RUEBEN!
Ingredients

tablespoons Thousand Island Dressing

slices rye bread
6
slices (1 oz each) Swiss cheese
1
can (16 oz) sauerkraut, drained
3/4
lb thinly sliced cooked corned beef
1/4
cup butter or margarine, softened
- Spread 1 tablespoon Thousand Island Dressing over each of 6 slices bread. Top with cheese, sauerkraut and corned beef. Top with remaining bread slices.
- 2Spread 1 teaspoon butter over each top slice of bread. Place sandwiches, butter sides down, in skillet. Spread remaining butter over top slices of bread. Cook uncovered over low heat about 10 minutes or until bottoms are golden brown. Turn; cook about 8 minutes longer or until bottoms are golden brown and cheese is melted.
Thousand Island Dressing - $3.28/ 16 ounce bottle
Rye Bread - $4.29/16 ounce loaf
Swiss Cheese - Boars Head $10.69/lb
Sauerkraut - .98/ 14.5 ounce can

Corned Beef - Boars Head $12,59/lb
Now Mom wants a Reuben! To keep her's low carb she makes it minus the bread!
Oh my gosh. Can you believe my mom says she has never had a Reuben?! That is so funny and your pic looks so delicious says dad. Now he wants one. Snorts with piggy laughter. XOXO - Bacon
ReplyDeleteI like Reubens too! Only without the bread, sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing. That just leaves the cheese, corned beef and butter, right? ;-)
ReplyDeleteYummers the 2 leggers love Reubens. Mom has a recipe for reuben burgers and it is quite yummy smelling. Everything that is in this except for corn beef

They are one of my favorite sandwiches! A local family restaurant makes fabulous Reuben sandwiches :)

Yum. I like Reuben sandwiches. I'm surprised by the cheese and corned beef prices. At the store I work at, not sure of the brand names but our Swiss cheese is $4.99 a pound and corned beef is $7.99

ReplyDeleteMy family is pretty much all German and I've been a bit of a black sheep from the beginning because of my food tastes. No Sauerkraut (though I didn't dislike it when we went to Germany when I was in elementary school), bratwurst ... not a fan of wine ... maybe I'm adopted?!

ReplyDeleteDad and Mom love Reubens, but they have never made them at home, and Mom rarely orders them because of the number of calories. How does Mom Sharon make it without bread?
