Sunday Selfies

We're pawticipating in The Cat on My Head's Sunday Selfies today.

Mom buys expensive safflower seeds for the birds because the Cardinals like them and squirrels (aka TREE RATS) don't.  Guess nobody told this guy.  PLUS he was cheeky enough to take a selfie while he was eating!

You ebil tree rat!  Mom, let me at him......PLEEEZE!!!

  1. That tree rat is an opportunist but at least he paid for the seeds with a selfie.

  3. Did he have a sign, "Will take selfies for food?"

  4. Yikes... tree rats are a PITT. A plastic dome over the top of the feed would be too slippery for them to hand on to...dang rats can jump about 3-4' vertically. If you buy shepherd's hook to hang the feeder from and a baffle to place on the shaft below the feeder the rats will not be able to get to the expensive food. Shepherd's hook, dome and baffle will cost in the beginning but save you tons of $$ on seed.
I have a set up that I can send you a photo of via email

  5. Still, nice he stopped to take that lovely selfie. Here they never seem to sit still long enough–I wonder why? I have to say there is always one that manages to overcome the security and get the nuts or seeds. A greasy pole, a moat and maybe crocodiles might help deter?

  7. Mom vanquished the tree rats with a very expensive feeder. It held 5# of the sunflower hearts I always served my brood out there. Even then it was 10.00 a bag.

The feeder would spin a squirrel around and around until he dropped off. This happened as soon as he reached for the perch for the birds. Worked each and every time. Had one that tried to stay on several minutes...finally dropped off and he was dizzy. Took him a while to get across the years after the spinning.
]What did us in here was the deer who came and ate from the feeder every day. 10 dollars a bag every 2 days..nope. I had to give up and take the feeder down. It was entertainment for me and the neighbors too who loved it! The spinning. The deer messed it all up.

  9. Sawyer just tried to attack a squirrel through the kitchen window...a daily pastime for all of us. Dad buys sunflower seeds, which everybody loves. He and Mom keep the squirrels around for our entertainment. We appreciate it. Whenever a human says an animal doesn't like or doesn't do a particular thing, the animal always has to prove them wrong. It's their job! MOL. Mau sends Allie his forever love and smoochies to last forever as well.
