9-11.....we will never forget

We will never forget...

By FAR the day that stands out to most of us in history is 9/11/01. Today, many years later, we will never forget... where we were that day... what we were doing when we heard...
Mom and Dad had just returned from a cruise to Alaska.  Dad's brother and a friend were here because they took care of us while Mom and Dad were away.  The TV was on and someone said a plane crashed into the World Trade Center.  Mom immediately called Auntie El who still lived in New Jersey to tell her. Together they all watched the second plane crash into the second tower.  For days after that, Mom says she just remembers silence and numbness. Everyone seemed to whisper, everyone was polite... it was strange. No airplanes in the sky. Constant reminders that life would never be the same again... Even though life eventually got back to normal, even though it was a new normal, America had been changed. We will never forget.

Where were you when you heard?

Our prayers are with the families who lost loved ones in the Towers, at the Pentagon and in the field in Pennsylvania.

I wasn't here yet. Pop was running for his life.TW was by a window in her office watching the towers burn and then fall. She couldn't get in touch with Pop.. She'll never forget the anguish cries of her coworkers who had friends, lovers or family in the towers. Pop's story is on my blog today.

My human had lots of fun at the World Trade Center for the CMJ Conference several years running in the 1980s. So she never discusses 911. It's too sad and personal.

The head peep had just started a new job in Florida. She had been laid off from a NY company on April Fools Day, but her former coworkers all were still blocks from WTC. A sad, scary day indeed.

Someone called our Person to tell her to turn on the TV so she was home. Most of us weren't born then. Mister would be the only one alive at that time. It was a horrible horrible day.

Beautiful post. I remember teaching at the university and watching the scenes on TV as tears streamed down my face. Faculty and students just stood together watching with shock and horror. It was a day that changed out country forever.

I was at work on the 27th of 28 floors in an office bldg in Michigan. We were evacuated because at that time no one was sure if large office buildings would become "targets"

I was training a class and every time I came out of the classroom some new horrible thing had happened - but I couldn't understand it all because I hadn't seen or heard anything first hand all day.

Dad was working in the garage and he heard about the first plane on the radio. He shouted to mum that there had been a terrible accident in New York. She put the TV on to see if it was on the news. As she watched, she saw the second plane crash and then she knew it was no accident.
We will never forget.

So many wonderful memorial posts today. What happened 12 years ago is totally a part of who each of us are. It is a terrible day to have in our memories but so important that w remember it each year and honor those who gave their lives. Thanks. Janet

I was working about 30 minutes from NYC at the time. A friend of mine was visiting from California, and we almost went into the city that day. For whatever reason, we decided to go down on the day before.

We will never forget.

We weren't around back then but the mom says she was driving to work when she heard that the first plane hit the WTC. She said it was a very scary and sad time. Too many innocent people lost.
