Thursday in the Garden

First we want to tell you that our pal Baby Patches of Nip and Bones is having a super duper 4th of July blowout sale.

Nip and Bones Blowout Sale  Remember, the holidays will be here before you know it and there are some super good items at great prices!!  Baby Patches' Mom has had some health issues and you will not only be getting a great deal but also helping them out.

We haven't done a Thursday in the Garden post in ages and thought you might like to see Mom's bromeliads..  If you're not familiar with The Society of Feline Gardeners, it was started by Jonesie of Cory Cat Blog.

We thought we would tell you a little about the plants.....Notice it says require VERY LITTLE CARE....yep....purrfect for our Mom!!

WHAT ARE BROMELIADS?

Bromeliads are members of a plant family known as Bromeliaceae (bro-meh-lee-AH-say-eye). The family contains over 3000 described species in approximately 56 genera. The most well known bromeliad is the pineapple. The family contains a wide range of plants including some very un-pineapple like members such as Spanish Moss (which is neither Spanish nor a moss). Other members resemble aloes or yuccas while still others look like green, leafy grasses.
In general they are inexpensive, easy to grow, require very little care, and reward the grower with brilliant, long lasting blooms and ornamental foliage. They come in a wide range of sizes from tiny miniatures to giants. They can be grown indoors in cooler climates and can also be used outdoors where temperatures stay above freezing.

Here are the two that are currently blooming.  The first one is one that Mom bought a few years ago.  The plants only flower once so this is from a pup from that plant (UM....Mom?  PUP?  We're Cats!!)

The second is from some plants Mom got at the Church rummage sale.....

We hope you enjoyed seeing these unusual flowers.....we think they're interesting BUTTT....since we never go out, we never get to see them up close.  Now I think I'll take a bath and then have a good, long nap!

Do they only bloom once in the lifetime of the plant or once a season. These are absolutely gorgeous. Mom's going to get out and take photos of our various flowers so we can share them on the blog. Mau wants Allie to know that he has sent her some photos of her dressed for the 4th. Mom'll try to get her and Mau in some backgrounds before the 4th. He is sending her lots of love and smooches.
