The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

The sun was shining, and it was as quiet as could be at Periwinkle's house.  The Teleportation  Tunnel was nowhere in sight.  Why, you ask?  Periwinkle and Stinky had their Adventure on Saturday afternoon.   Let's go back in time to see what they did......

Periwinkle woke up early that morning to spend some extra time grooming her furs.  Even though it was Saturday, today was her Adventure with Stinky! She didn't have to wait too long for his arrival.  The Teleportation Tunnel began to shake, and she heard the familiar WOOSH that signaled Stinky's arrival.  He flew out of the Tunnel and straight into her waiting paws.  The Tabbies giggled, whisker-kissed, and hugged.  They were always so happy to be together!  Since Stinky already knew where they were going, Periwinkle said they should probably be on their way.  Where are they going?  The annual Blessing of the Pets!! Noelle checked them out in their carrier and thanked them for taking her photo so she didn't have to go since she got nervous in the car.

Everybody was ready to go!

Since Periwinkle and Stinky were able to sit quietly with their seatbelts on, they could ride in the car without being in their carrier.  Reesie chose to stay in hers.

Periwinkle's Mom is ALWAYS early so they waited in the car for a while before anyone else showed up.  When Father Adam came, they got out and introduced themselves.  He had heard of them and said he was glad they could join the Blessing.
They waited for others to come and for the Blessing to start.  Periwinkle told Stinky the story of St Francis of Assisi.

Periwinkle explained, "St. Francis lived in Italy more than 800 years ago. When he was young, he dreamed of being a knight and having an exciting, important life. But as he grew older, his heart changed. He chose a much simpler life devoted to God, helping poor people, caring for others, and living peacefully with creation. He became known for treating all of God's creatures with love and respect.

St. Francis had a very special way of looking at the world. He called animals “brother” and “sister” because he believed that every creature was part of God's creation. There are wonderful stories about him preaching to birds, helping a rabbit that had been caught in a trap, and even making peace with a frightening wolf in the town of Gubbio."

Stinky was impurressed.  Periwinkle went on, "One of my favorites is the story about the birds. Francis came upon a whole flock and began talking to them about God. Instead of flying away, the birds stayed and listened! Francis blessed them before they flew off. How cool is that?"  Stinky said it was cool and also said they should probably apologize to the Tabbies for mentioning a BURD!  That made Periwinkle giggle, but she agreed.

Stinky said, "I know about St. Francis too! St. Francis also wrote a beautiful prayer-poem called The Canticle of the Creatures. He praised God for the sun, moon, stars, wind, water, fire, Earth—and all the creatures who share our world. To Francis, creation wasn't just something beautiful to look at. It was a reminder of God's goodness. That's one reason St. Francis became associated with animals and care for creation, and why he was named patron saint of ecology in 1979. Because of St. Francis' love for animals, many churches have a special Blessing of the Animals around his feast day on October 4 just like this one. People bring their beloved pets—dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, and sometimes even horses or other animals—to be blessed. The service gives everyone a chance to thank God for these special members of our families and to remember our responsibility to treat animals with kindness and compassion."  Looking around they realized there were only two other cats there and a burd (sorry again, Tabbies) and the rest of the pets were woofies.

Since they were early (thanks to Periwinkle's Mom), the two walked around and met some of the woofies.

They saw these woofies and realized the one on the right was a Sheriff's woofie.

This little girl's Mom explained that she was deaf and blind but wanted to come to be blessed too.

Soon it was time for the blessing...

After the blessing, the two said goodbye to their new friends and thanked Father Adam.  They followed Periwinkle's Mom and Reesie to the car and went back to Periwinkle's house.  Their tummies were rumbling, so they had a quick snack of Churus and talked about the day.  Stinky said, "I think the most important thing St. Francis teaches us is pretty simple: Be kind, be gentle, take care of God's creatures, and live peacefully with one another."  Periwinkle added, "You don't have to be a saint to make the world a kinder place.  You can start with the animal sitting beside you, the bird in your backyard (sorry Tabbies), a squirrel in a tree, or even a little bug that needs a safe place to go."

They said "I love you" to each other over and over, knowing it was almost time for Stinky to leave.  He thanked Periwinkle's Mom for taking them to the blessing and told Reesie how impurressed he was with how she handled the barking dogs.  He told Noelle she was wise to stay home since he knew she would have been really scared.

One more whisker-kiss and "I love you" and Stinky hopped into the Teleportation Tunnel.  With a WOOSH he was on his way home.  Periwinkle went to find Noelle to tell her about the day.

Monday Sparks

Even though McGuffy's reader is taking a break, we are continuing our Monday Sparks posts!  From the original Sparks posts:

Welcome to Sparks. Many years ago, it was my intent to post an inspirational thought each Monday. It would be my weekly meditation, and perhaps feed other people's spirit as well. Life got busy, and this fell by the wayside. Now, I feel a strong need to bring this feature back.

The negative energy in the world has become thick and oppressive. Social media has become a part of this dark, negative storm. There is an obvious universal need for more positive energy and peace. And, we can all be part of this affirmative change.
I believe we are meant to be lights in this world. If we allow our light to shine, we can see where we are going. It is then that we can begin to truly see each other clearly. Together, we can light up the entire world!
I hope you will join us. Please link up a positive quote, thought, poem, or verse. The badge and code can be found in my sidebar. Add the badge to your post to invite others. The more, the merrier. I welcome your thoughts. Peace.

The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

The first day of autumn arrived quietly in Florida.

Periwinkle sat by the Teleportation Tunnel while waiting for Stinky's arrival.  As she waited, she watched a breeze move through the palm trees outside. Autumn in Florida was different from the places with colorful falling leaves and chilly mornings like where Stinky lives,  but she liked it just the same. Suddenly, the Teleportation Tunnel started to shake and, with a WOOSH, out popped Stinky. Periwinkle greeted him with whisker kisses, big hugs, and paw pats.  Stinky returned the kisses, hugs, and paw pats and was excited to spend the day with his fiancé.

“Happy Autumn Equinox, Periwinkle!” Stinky said. “Happy Autumn Equinox, Stinky!” Periwinkle replied. “Let’s enjoy the first day of fall together.”  Of course, Periwinkle had lots of info on the Equinox. "The equinox is the day when daytime and nighttime are almost the same length. After the Autumn Equinox, the days gradually start getting shorter and the nights get longer as we move toward winter. Since I live in Florida, autumn is a little different here. We don't suddenly wake up to a yard full of red and orange leaves like you do, but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate fall!

Stinky said, "Your house looks kind of fall-ish with the leaves and pumpkins."  Periwinkle said her Mom liked to decorate and that everything was fake but still looked festive.  Of course, Stinky had to jump up high to see the trees and leaves better!

Periwinkle showed him the fireplace and they decided to take a photo together.

Periwinkle disappeared and returned with a bag that she handed to Stinky.  "Go put these on, we have another fun thing to do today!"  Never wanting to displease Periwinkle, he took the package and changed.  He returned with a big smile.  "I know what we're doing!  We're celebrating Meow Like a Pirate Day!"  Periwinkle laughed and said, "You're right!  I know it was Saturday but it's too much fun for us to pass up!

Periwinkle put on her pirate garb too.

Since they couldn't actually sail on a pirate ship, they asked Chat GPT to create a pirate story for them.  Here's what it came up with....

The Tale of Captain Periwinkle & First Mate Stinky

**Periwinkle:**
Arrrrr, mateys! Gather 'round and listen to the tale of the most fearsome pirate cat to ever sail the seven seas!  That would be **Captain Periwinkle Purrbeard**, of course!  I woke up this morning, put on my finest pirate hat, gave my whiskers a mighty twirl, and announced:
“ARRRR! Today be **Meow Like a Pirate Day!”  There was only one problem. I needed a first mate andd there was only one cat crazy enough for the job...
**STINKY!** 😹

**Stinky:**
ARRRRRR! That's **First Mate Stinky No-Tail**, thank you very much!
And before Captain Periwinkle says anything... YES, I KNOW A PIRATE SHIP IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE A CAT WITH A TAIL. But I don't have one. That just makes me an **extra special pirate!**
I climbed aboard Captain Periwinkle's imaginary ship, the **S.S. Whisker Wobble**, and shouted: “Raise the anchor!” Periwinkle looked at me.  “Stinky... we don't have an anchor.”
“Oh. Raise the sails!” “We don't have sails either.” “Walk the plank!” “We don't have a plank!”
I thought about that for a moment. “Then what DO we have?” Periwinkle proudly pointed to a cardboard box.“Our treasure ship!”

**Periwinkle:**
A fine vessel indeed! We climbed into the mighty cardboard ship and sailed across the living-room ocean. We dodged the dreaded **Couch Reef**. We sailed past the **Blanket Islands**.
And then... WE SPOTTED TREASURE! 💰🐾 A shiny little toy mouse was sitting at the other end of the room. “TREASURE AHEAD!” I cried.

**Stinky:**
I immediately jumped out of the ship. “ARRRR! I'M GOING AFTER IT!” “Wait, Stinky!” Captain Periwinkle shouted. Too late. I charged across the room like a pirate who had just heard the dinner-bowl being filled. I grabbed the treasure. Then I heard... **CRINKLE.** Oh no.
The treasure was hiding underneath a mysterious crinkly bag. I froze. Periwinkle froze.
The bag moved. We stared at it. “ARRRRR...” I whispered. “ARRRRR...” Periwinkle whispered.
Then suddenly—
**WHOOSH!** The bag fell over. I jumped three feet into the air. “SEA MONSTER!!!”

**Periwinkle:**
I bravely rescued First Mate Stinky from the terrifying crinkly sea monster.
Of course, after I rescued him, he claimed he had planned the whole thing.
“It's part of pirate training,” he said. Mmm-hmm. Sure, Stinky.
Then we celebrated our successful voyage with the most important pirate activity of all...
**A SNACK!** Because every good pirate knows: No treasure hunt should ever happen on an empty tummy.

**Stinky:**
ARRRR! And so ends the greatest adventure of **Captain Periwinkle Purrbeard** and **First Mate Stinky No-Tail**! We may not have a real ship. We may not have a real ocean. We may not even have a real treasure chest. But we've got whiskers... We've got paws... We've got imagination... And we've got SNACKS!

So from the S.S. Whisker Wobble, we wish all our fellow kitties a very...

# 🏴‍☠️🐱 **HAPPY MEOW LIKE A PIRATE DAY!** 🐱🏴‍☠️

**Periwinkle:** “ARRRR!”

**Stinky:** “ARRRRRRRR!”

**Periwinkle:** “Stinky, that's enough.”

**Stinky:** “ARRRR!”

**Periwinkle:** “I said enough.”

**Stinky:** “...arr?”

The two held paws and giggled as they read the story.  Stinky said, "I hope our friends enjoy the story too!"  Periwinkle agreed it was a fun story.

As evening arrived, the sky turned shades of gold, pink, and orange. “Stinky,” Periwinkle said, “ that talk of snacks made me think, why don't we celebrate the Autumn Equinox at the beach?” Stinky's ears perked up.“The beach? I'm in!”

Paw in paw, they headed down to the beach for a beautiful afternoon together before Stinky had to go home. The sun was warm, but a pleasant breeze came off the ocean. Waves rolled gently onto the sand, and the sound made both cats stop and listen. Periwinkle walked along the edge of the beach, investigating everything. and Stinky followed behind her, his little tailless body doing an enthusiastic wiggle with every step.  Periwinkle found a nice spot and set out the snacks she brought with her.

They enjoyed their snacks and sat on the blanket holding paws, whisker-kissing and paw-patting.  Soon it was time for them to leave the beach.  They got back to Periwinkle's house and Stinky spent some time visiting Periwinkle's fursibs and her Mom.  He told her Mom he appreciated the fall decorations and hoped to come back and help with Halloween decorations.  Her Mom said that would be great and he promised he would.  With one last whisker kiss, he stepped into the Teleportation Tunnel and, with a WOOSH, started his trip home.  Periwinkle put away the picnic items and decided to take a nap in a sun puddle.

Sunday Selfies Missing Angel Tamir

We post this every year on the anniversary of Angel Tamir's leaving us.  We hope you don't mind seeing it again.

Fourteen years ago, our sweet Angel Tamir made his journey to the Bridge. Mom made this slideshow on the first anniversary of his leaving for the Bridge to celebrate Tamir's life.  We know it's long, but we hope you enjoy it. Mom had a hard time finding the right photos to use, and it was challenging to cut some of them.   There's even a little video of his loud and rumbly purr!!  We know we have some new friends since Angel Tamir left us, and we hope you enjoy meeting him....he was a special ManCat.

We can't believe the Big Guy has been gone for so long.  We really miss him a lot.

We're pawticipating in The Cat on My Head's Sunday Selfies today with our slideshow.
