Periwinkle was so excited about today's Adventure. She and Stinky planned it out together after their last Adventure and she knew it would be purrfect! This time, she and Stinky are teleporting from their own homes. Both stepped into their own Teleportations in anticipation of their Catskills adventure.
With a little shake of the Tunnel and a WOOSH, Periwinkle suddenly appeared at their meeting spot.
And then…Stinky arrived! For just a moment, they stared at each other in delighted surprise. Then there was no holding back! They spent time whisker-kissing and paw patting, and then Stinky looked up. "Um, Periwinkle, there's a crowd watching us!" Periwinkle was surprised, but the crowd assured them they were just thrilled to see the famous Periwinkle and Stinky return. The tabbies explained that their followers agreed that they should come see some more of the wonderful kitties!
Both tabbies decided they needed to get their map out. No sooner did they say that than they walked by Cat Mapping. They giggled and headed out to see the other kitties.
They decided to start with some of the numbers their pals requested. The Trout Talking Tabbies suggested quite a few. First was #13...There Was An Old Feline...
Next came #18, which was Emergence...
Cats Reds Whites and Blues was another favorite...
Suddenly, as he often does, Stinky ran off. Periwinkle rolled her eyes and wondered what trouble he would get into this time. She laughed when she saw where he was...
He said, "You thought I was going to do something naughty, didn't you? I just figured I would help Harold the Vegetable Harvester." Periwinkle apologized, and he took her paw as they continued their walk.
They stopped to see Jabari and agreed he was a handsome ginger tabby and hoped he got to celebrate Ginger Cat Day!
Lady Lupine was another favorite. Periwinkle said she thought Lady Lupine was gorgeous; Stinky agreed but said Periwinkle was much prettier!! Periwinkle squeezed his paw and thanked him.
Walking along, they spotted Emerald Cat...
and World Traveler...
Of course, Santa Claws was a big hit. It was also a reminder that Santa is always watching and you should behave. Periwinkle hoped Stinky remembered that!
As they approached Snacky Cat, Periwinkle and Stinky looked at each other. Their tummies were rumbling, and they both knew it was definitely time for a snack!
"Hey, look, there's Lobster Cat, and he's right in front of a seafood restaurant. Let's go get something to eat," said Stinky. Periwinkle thought that was a great idea!
They were quickly seated, and the staff all came out to meet them. They prepared a special plate of Fancy Feast and some Temptations for the two to enjoy.
While they were eating, Stinky, looking a bit embarrassed, pulled out a card. "I feel awful that I missed your birthday. I know we celebrated Noelle's, but we didn't do anything special for you. Please accept my apology and this card.
Periwinkle thanked him and gave him a big hug and a whisker kiss. "I knew you wouldn't forget me, and you were super sweet to bring me a card today. It's nice that we get to celebrate together." Stinky was happy she wasn't mad at him, and the two enjoyed their meal while chatting and holding paws.
They said goodbye to the staff and promised to stop by next year. They passed Vacation Wonderland and agreed that the Catskills had a lot to offer.
It was getting late, and it was almost time for them to Teleport to their homes. They took a quick stop at the Gift Shop to buy souvenir mugs for their moms.
A few more whisker kisses and paw pats, a few more "I love yous," and they were on their way. The crowd waved goodbye as they entered the Teleportation Tunnel and, with a WOOSH, they each headed home.
Today is sweet Noelle's 9th birthday, so our Toons are all birthday!
Happy Birthday Noelle! We love you very much, and we know Angel Sawyer is smiling down on you today (as always!)
We asked Cooper Murphy to make a cake, and we think it turned out great. Please enjoy a slice before you head to see Periwinkle and Stinky.
Today is also Ginger Cat Appreciation Day! We shared some photos of our special Ginger, Angel Tamir, for Rainbow Bridge Remembrance Day, but thought you might enjoy seeing some photos of baby Tamir.
Wasn't he a cutie?
His first cat show!!!
And, since it's almost Labor Day, his patriotic photo!
Remember to visitThe Cat On My Headto see what Stinky has planned for today's Adventure!
It was a hot August day, and Periwinkle was waiting patiently by the Teleportation Tunnel for the arrival of her fiancé, Stinky. She had an Adventure planned that was now becoming a tradition, and it was in a much cooler place than where she lives. Soon, the Tunnel began to shake and, with a WOOSH, Stinky tumbled out into her waiting paws. She took him by the paw and brought him back into the Tunnel, saying, "I've already entered the coordinates for our Adventure, and it's MUCH cooler where we're going, so let's head out!" Stinky knew better than to disagree!
They arrived at their destination and Stinky immediately knew why they were there...
"We're here for Cat'n Around, aren't we?" he asked. Periwinkle smiled and said that this has become a tradition and, as always, the photos she saw of the cats were spectacular, so they should see them in purrson again. As always, there were CATS. LOTS OF CATS. Not live cats. Not furry cats. But 76 fabulous, colorful, decorated cat statues scattered throughout Catskill for everyone to discover!
Periwinkle reminded him, "The Heart of Catskill Association's Cat’n Around Catskill is a community
art project that brings artists, businesses, students and visitors together.
The cats are displayed throughout the Town and Village of Catskill during the
summer. A purr-fect adventure meeting some of the fabulous Cat’n Around Catskill cats."
Periwinkle handed Stinky the map so they could plan their day.
They decided to check out the cat that was featured in this year's auction. The cat was named Twenty Litters Later to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Cat'n Around.
Of course, Stinky had to climb up to get a better look. Periwinkle rolled her eyes but decided it wasn't too high, and he's been behaving lately, so she didn't say anything. Stinky caught her look and, apologetically, came right down.
The tabbies walked paw in paw, checking out some of the other statues. They spotted one called Catillac and asked if they could hop in. Since everyone knew the famous Periwinkle and Stinky, they were told they could (even though it doesn't really drive anywhere). They had fun pretending they were driving all over the Catskills.
Periwinkle exclaimed, "Look, Stinky, this one is amazing. It's called Iron Pawtector & Murder Mittens. My Mom says I sometimes have murder mittens!" Stinky laughed and said he sometimes has them too.
They decided to take a photo with this one to show their Moms.
Each one has its own personality, decorations, and story. Here are six of the actual Cat’n Around Catskill cats that Periwinkle and Stinky stopped to admire on their adventure.
Captain Kiddy
Periwinkle said, “Stinky, look! This kitty is dressed like a pirate!” Stinky added, “A pirate cat? Now THAT is my kind of adventure and would be great for Meow Like a Pirate Day!" Periwinkle agreed.
Cat Vine Winkle
Stinky spotted Cat Vine Winkle first and said, "Periwinkle, this kitty has a very mysterious look.” Periwinkle giggled and said, “I think this one is watching to make sure we don't miss any of the other cats! He also reminds me it's almost time for a nap.”
Fortune’s Favor
Periwinkle was impurressed with the next one and said, “Oh my whiskers! Look at all those cards and the crystal ball!” Always thinking of snacks, Stinky said, "Do you think it can predict whether I'll get treats later?” Of course, Periwinkle sighed and rolled her eyes again but promised there would be treats!
Moon Star and Mermaids
Both tabbies said at once, “Now THIS is a glamorous kitty!” Periwinkle said. “I love the stars, Merkitties and beautiful colors. She even has sparkly eye makeup.
"MOL, only a girl cat would notice that," said Stinky. Right away he knew that was probably a mistake, but then Periwinkle hugged him, and he was relieved she wasn't upset with him.
Sunny Cat
Periwinkle said, “This one makes me think of sunshine and flowers but not as hot as my house”
They gasped when they saw the next one. Periwinkle explained, "This eye-catching decorative cat sculpture features an intricate textured mosaic pattern made from recycled aluminum pop-tabs in silver and gold tones."
"Tabby Cat
Stinky laughed and said it had to take a LOT of cans of Fancy Feast to make that. Of course, he reminded Periwinkle about her promise of treats!
Their paws were getting tired and Periwinkle noticed Beans Cat Cafe was right across the street, so they headed there for a snack!
As they had found before, the cafe had a nice selection of Temptations and Fancy Feast. The other diners were thrilled to see the famous duo, and many stopped by their table to tell them how much they enjoyed following their Adventures.
After their snack, they walked around a little bit more. Periwinkle spotted Wild Iris and said how beautiful she was. Stinky agreed but said she wasn't as beautiful as Periwinkle, which made Periwinkle blush and squeeze his paw.
🐱 So Many Cats, So Little Time!
After meeting Captain Kiddy, Cat Vine Winkle, Fortune’s Favor, Moon Stars and Mermaids, Sunny Cat, Tabby Cat, and so many others, Periwinkle and Stinky agreed that Cat’n Around Catskill is a very important place for two adventurous tabbies to visit. Periwinkle said, "I love how every cat is different!” Stinky agreed and said, “And I love that there are still more cats for us to find! You know what? We should come back to see the others before the exhibit is over! Do you think our pals would mind?" Periwinkle said she was sure they wouldn't and started planning their return trip.
And so our two explorers continued their Cat’n Around Catskill adventure, with cameras ready, whiskers twitching, and their eyes searching for the next fabulous feline around the corner. Soon it was time for Stinky to head home. They sat on a bench, held paws, and whisker-kissed. They said "I love you" to each other many times. Since they arrived through the Teleportation Tunnel, Periwinkle had the coordinates in place for Stinky to return home first and then for her to go to her house.
Until our next adventure…
Periwinkle and Stinky would love it if you would pick out which cats you would like them to show you next time. The map at the top has all of them listed!
Periwinkle got up early that morning to decorate for today's Adventure before Stinky arrived. She took time to groom her furs and think about what she had planned. This was a new take on an Adventure they did before, but she knew it was something they should share with their pals. Soon, the Teleportation Tunnel began to shake, and with a WOOSH, Stinky tumbled out right into her waiting paws. They giggled, whisker-kissed, and paw-patted. Stinky told Periwinkle he knew what they were doing. She laughed and said she figured he would when he saw the banner she put out.
Periwinkle said, “Oh, Stinky! Can you believe it? Summer is
almost over, and the little humans are heading back to school!” Stinky was surprised when Periwinkle told him
school started the previous day where she lives. Periwinkle continued, “Stinky, back-to-school time means there are some
important things that our humans—and our furry friends—need to remember. There
will be more cars, school buses, bicycles, children walking, and lots of
excitement around the neighborhood. So we need to be extra careful. Stinky said, “ Exactly! Let's give everypawdy
some tips.” Both agreed that they had
shared info other years but would focus on pets this year too.
🚌
Watch Out for School Buses
Right away, Stinky said, “I know this one! When a school bus
stops and the red lights are flashing, cars need to STOP!
Periwinkle added, “That's right. Never try to pass a stopped
school bus. Children may be getting on or off the bus, and they can sometimes
move into the roadway unexpectedly. And drivers should slow down around school
zones, too!" Stinky agreed! “Absolutely. Put down the phone, watch carefully,
and be ready for children crossing the street.”
🚶🐕 Watch for Kids
and Pets
Both tabbies agreed that back-to-school mornings can be
busy. Children may be walking to school with their dogs, cats may be outside,
and pets can sometimes get frightened by all the activity.Cats should
stay safely indoors!Keeping cats indoors is especially
important when there is increased traffic around the neighborhood, but cats
should NEVER be outside unattended.
For dogs who go on walks, make sure they are securely leashed
and have identification information on their collar or tag.
🚗 Drive Extra Carefully
What should humans do when they're driving? Slow down! Especially in school zones, residential
neighborhoods, and near bus stops.
Remember:
🚦
Obey school-zone speed limits.
🚌
Stop for school buses when required.
🚸
Watch carefully for children crossing.
📱
Never text while driving.
🚲
Look for bicycles and scooters.
🐾
Watch for pets near roads and driveways.
🚗
Check carefully before backing out of a driveway.
🎒 Keep School Supplies
Away From Pets
Stinky asked, “What about all those shiny pencils and
crayons?”
Periwinkle reminded him that they may look like toys to
curious kitties, but school supplies aren't for chewing! Keep things such as pencils, erasers, glue, markers,
crayons, rubber bands, and small objects where pets can't get into them. Because if it fits in a paw, somepawdy is going to investigate it! Periwinkle
said, “That's exactly why our humans need to keep an eye on us."
Don't Share the Lunchbox!
Stinky gasped and asked, “What if the kids bring home
something delicious?” Periwinkle said, “They can share appropriate treats, but
pets shouldn't eat human lunches without permission. Some foods that are
perfectly fine for people can be dangerous for pets.” Stinky frowned and asked,
“So I shouldn't steal a sandwich?” Periwinkle rolled her eyes and said, “Correct.”
Stinky continued, “What about just one little bite if it’s a Churu
sandwich?” Periwinkle rolled her eyes again and said “ STINKY!”
😹😹😹
🏡 Give Pets a Quiet Place
They continued adding that back-to-school time can change
the household routine. Children may be leaving earlier, coming home later, and
bringing friends into the house. Make sure your pets have a quiet, comfortableplace where they can retreat when things get busy.
💕 Remember Your Furry
Friends
They both agreed that the first days of school can be
exciting for kids—but some pets may miss having their favorite humans around
during the day. So, when the kids come home, they should spend some special
time with their pets. Stinky exclaimed, “Exactly! A little playtime, a walk,
some cuddles, or simply sitting together can help everyone get used to the new
routine.”
The Tabbies put a Checklist together as a reminder...
Stinky added, “ And don't forget the most important rule!” Periwinkle responded, “ Which one?”
Stinky said, "Everybody—kids, kitties, doggies, and
humans—needs to get to school and home safely!" 🐾 Periwinkle agreed and replied, "Well said, Stinky!" Stinky said, "Thank you. Now... about that snack I was
promised. Periwinkle giggled and said, "I knew that was coming."
Periwinkle's Mom set up the outside table for them to enjoy their snack. While they ate, they looked into each other's eyes and told each other how much they appreciated their time together.
They took some time to watch a video about a cat who goes to school!
After the snack, they snuggled for a bit and spent time whisker-kissing, paw-patting and saying "I love you" to each other. They fell asleep paw in paw. When they woke up, Stinky visited with Periwinkle's Mom and fursibs and thanked her Mom for the snack. One more whisker kiss and "I love you" and he entered the Teleportation Tunnel for the trip home. Periwinkle spent some time cleaning up from their snack and then took a nice, long nap!
