The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

As always, Periwinkle woke up early and as standing with her ear to the Teleportation Tunnel.  It seemed like ages since she saw her boyfriend, Stinky.  Last week was so special...especially when he asked her to go STEADY!  She smiled as she thought of that and then WOOSH....he was there.

"Hi Periwinkle.  What are you smiling about?" he asked.  She told him how she was remembering last week and said how happy she was to be his steady girlfriend.  She told him she was the luckiest girlcat in the world to be going steady with such a handsome guy.  Stinky blushed and they spent some time catching up, sharing whisker kisses and paw pats.  Stinky asked what they were going to do that day. "I hope this isn't too boring, but today is an important day and I thought it would be good to do a PSA for our friends about World Spay Day" she replied.  Stinky agreed that it was an important message.  "As long as we are together, anything we do is special" he said.

"Tell me more about World Spay Day" said Stinky.  Periwinkle explained  "Launched in 1995, World Spay Day is an annual campaign that aims to encourage people to save animal lives by spaying and neutering companion animals and feral cats. World Spay Day itself is celebrated annually on the fourth Tuesday in February but the event, no matter how big or small, can take place anytime throughout the month of February, which is recognized as Spay/Neuter Awareness Month."

Periwinkle told Stinky that she looked up what was going on in her county and found the following information.

On the last Tuesday of every February, World Spay Day shines a spotlight on the power of affordable, accessible spay/neuter to save the lives of companion animals, community (feral and stray) cats, and dogs throughout Brevard County that our team at Animal Services encounter on a daily basis.

Spaying or neutering offers a variety of health benefits to your pet, including reducing the risk of your pet contracting many life-threatening conditions, and is also the most effective way to reduce the number of homeless pets in our community.

In support of World Spay Day, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Team will be performing 100 spay and neuter surgeries for several of our local rescue partners to include; PURRS, HOPE, Space Coast Feline Network, Friends for Animals Sanctuary, Smiling Dog Rescue, and Purrfect Friends during the month of March at no cost.

Each of these organizations is an amazing partner with our agency and community in trying to do everything we can to protect animals throughout Brevard County.

As always, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is committed to eliminating overpopulation of pets in our community and would like to thank our citizens for all they do to support this amazing effort.

There is no doubt that our agency and community would never have achieved the goals we have without the strong support of our employees, volunteers, private partners, and citizens.

On behalf of all of the Furry Citizens we take care of…Thank You!!

"My brofur, Raz, came from the Space Coast Feline Network." He was neutered before Mom adopted him. Noelle (my alter ego) was spayed by her foster Mom before she came to live with us. She has a tipped ear." "My Mom and Dad made sure that all of my fursibs were spayed or neutered too. Kizmet came to them already spayed." said Stinky.

Both Periwinkle and Stinky were amazed when they read the chart about how many kittens can be born from unspayed female cats.

"Wow, that's a LOT of cats" said Stinky.  Periwinkle agreed and they both said how sad it was that not all of those were as lucky as they were to find great homes.  There are other reasons to spay and neuter too.

"I'm glad we're able to tell all our fans how impawtent this is" said Stinky!

Periwinkle agreed.  After reading more about World Spay Day, the two decided it was time for a snack.

"The weather is so beautiful, let's go out to the pool deck", said Periwinkle.  Stinky agreed.  He said the weather was much colder at his house.   Off they went to spend some time enjoying snacks and just being together.  Stinky remarked at how nice and green everything was at Periwinkle's house and how pretty the flower were.  "Of course, they are not as pretty as you are" he said.  Periwinkle smiled and couldn't hide her blush.

After whisker kisses, paw pats and headbonks, it was time for Stinky to head home.  "I hope today wasn't boring, I just felt it was an impawtent message to share" said Periwinkle.   "Not at all, I love that we can enjoy being together AND share great information with others" he replied.   He stepped into the Teleportation Tunnel and with a WOOOSH, he was headed home.   Periwinkle found a sun puddle and napped while dreaming of their next adventure.

What a great post! All pets should be spayed/neutered. I don't know why people don't understand this.

What an important message. I am so happy Periwinkle and I were able to share it with all our friends and spend the day together doing it. Being a stray, I could have fathered lots of kitties, if my humans hadn’t brought me inside and had me neutered. Though it might me nice for Periwinkle and I to have kittens, it’s a good thing we can’t. Hope everyone else enjoys and heeds our message. 💋💋💋 to Periwinkle, Stinky

What a WONDERFUL visit these two had today and what an important day it is for animals and reducing population problems in the world. Too many homeless animals already and spaying and neutering is SOOOO important! A great visit for Periwinkle and Stinky and a most worthwhile subject for them to talk about.

Hugs, Teddy

We really enjoyed hearing this message as all are rescue kitties and have been Spayed. In fact it that *Timmy takes a fast look around the house* our Rumpy Bump in that final poster? I think so and what a mess he would be if he was not spayed MOL

Great PSA Stinky and Periwinkle! All of us are neutered and spayed! In her whole life Mom has only ever had one cat who was not spayed (She was pregnant when she arrived in her pawrents backyard). Kitty was spayed shortly after she had her kittens and Mom's Mom insisted the kittens be spayed before they were given new homes. All the dogs have been spayed and neutered too! Mom also has been part of TNR programs too. Thank you guys and have a marvellously happy day Oh Yes! We are so furry happy that you guys are going steady! You are AWESOME!

A most impawtant day for all furries. Just to think 3 to 5 years is gained if a kitty is spayed sold me. We don't need more kitties looking for homes when we can't help find kitties homes now.
