The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

Periwinkle spent a lot of time that morning grooming her furs and making sure she looked her best.  It was Tuesday and Stinky was coming for an Adventure.  She kept listening for the familiar WOOSH that meant he was on his way and, soon enough, she heard it!   WOOSH.... he tumbled out of the tunnel.  They both giggled and ran to each other.  Paw pats, whisker kisses and headbonks started immediately.

"Periwinkle, it's sure a lot hotter here than last week.  I hope we're going somewhere cool" said Stinky.  "Actually, we're staying right here today" she replied.  Stinky frowned but figured being with Periwinkle was always fun.

"Do you know what season starts today?" she asked.  Stinky scratched his head.   "Hmmm...it's not Christmas, Halloween or Easter," he said.  Periwinkle laughed and told him not to worry that he didn't know.  "Today is the first day of Hurricane Season," she said.  "OH MY COD, is a hurricane coming?" he asked.  She told him not to worry.  There were no storms on the way but this is the time to start being prepared.  She showed him the list of 2021 Hurricane Names.  "We've already had a storm named Ana and the next one is Bill.  Raz says that's our Daddy's name."

"One of the first things we do is make sure we have plenty of batteries in case power goes out" said Periwinkle.  She explained that her Mom had a whole drawer full of various sizes for their lanterns.

Speaking of lanterns, Periwinkle showed Stinky some of the ones she had.  Stinky was impressed and Periwinkle said they had a lot more of them.

"It's also important to have a battery operated radio.  Mom has one that's solar powered" said Periwinkle.

Periwinkle also showed him her Mom's solar-powered charger.

She also told him that it's important for Moms and Dads to have a good supply of non-perishable foods and a place to cook if they don't have power.

"What kind of things should your Mom have for you if there's a hurricane?" asked Stinky.   Periwinkle showed him a list of what you need for your pet in case of hurricane.

Your pet emergency kit should include:

At least enough water for a week for you and your pets
Nonperishable food (include a can opener if needed)
Food dishes and water bowls
Your pet’s medical records/proof of vaccination
Photos of your pets
Prescription medications (two-week supply)
ID tags on your pets’ collars or harnesses
Solid pet carrier
Cat litter and litter box
Puppy pads
Plastic bags or poop bags
Extra leash
Comfort items: pet bed, toys, treats
Pet first aid kit

"Wow, that's a lot of stuff" said Stinky.  Perwinkle showed him some of their supplies like extra food and TREATS!

"In case we have to evacuate, Mom would bring comfy beds and toys that smell like home" said Periwinkle.  Stinky thought the bed looked cozy and jumped right in!

"Even if we stay home, Mom makes sure we're in a secure place like this cool tent" said Periwinkle.  The two giggled and decided to get inside and spend some time snuggling and whisker kissing.  They thought it was purrfect.

"I sure hope you don't get any of those scary storms, but at least you have a plan and are prepared" said Stinky.   Periwinkle told him he could read more about Hurricane Preparedness HERE.

Periwinkle showed Stinky some silly Hurricane Memes which made both Tabbies MOL!

Stinky said "Seeing those yummy noms made my tummy rumble."  Perwinkle agreed and the two went to their favorite spot out back to enjoy a snack.

Perwinkle and Stinky agreed that they both hoped those storms would steer clear of everyone and just be "fish storms" which also made the two giggle.  After visiting with Periwinkle's Mom and brofur Raz, they spent some time whisker kissing and headbonking.  Soon it was time for Stinky to head home.  "I really enjoyed learning about Hurricane Preparedness and I am glad you are ready no matter what comes around."  Periwinkle agreed it made her feel better.

One last whisker kiss and WOOSH, Stinky was headed home.  Periwinkle headed back to the tent where the two of them snuggled and enjoyed the memories of the day.

Oh, dear, those awful hurricanes, again...
Hope you'll be spared the worst...and yet its great that you are prepared.
Thanks Stinky & Periwinkle for reminding peeps. Eve if we don't live in hurricane prone areas, we too need to be prepared for any untoward events/disasters.

A very nice visit our two adventurers had this week. Hurricane season is something that can be quite scary and worrisome but the more you're prepared the more secure you will feel. I'd say Periwinkle's Mom is VERY well prepared with all the important things the family would need in the event of a bad storm. I'm sure Stinky enjoyed just knowing that his Periwinkle and her family would be SAFE.

Hugs, Teddy

Wow, that was great information, and we are definitely thankful that Mom Sharon is prepared should a nasty hurricane blow in your direction, but we will be praying that doesn’t happen. We sure learned a lot today from Periwinkle and Stinky. Good jobs, kids! Love to all. Dear sweet Periwinkle and Stinky...they started talking about hurry-cane season here too. Geeez the news seems to enjoy dwelling on trouble. After a year of plague you'd think they would take a moment to stop and smell some positive.. that being said preparation is necessary and you are ready

Thanks you two. That is really good stuff to know for everyone who lives on the coast and especially in the lower states. We have a lot of that stuff too but for snow storms. One year we lost electric for a week and this past winter were stuck with no plowed roads for a week. No matter where you live be purrpared. Loved that Catogrory 3 Purricane!

WoW! Your hurricane list is the same as out flood/fire list. We were not going to have high water this year, so Mom has not yet put together the go bags, it is extra hot and dry, and that is on the list of things to do this week. We love the cat-astrophe cat pictures!
