The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

As she always did on Tuesdays, Periwinkle woke up early because she was soooo excited to see her handsome boyfriend, Stinky.  She paced back and forth in front of the Teleportation Tunnel waiting for his arrival.  Suddenly, the Tunnel started to shake and she heard the familiar WOOOSH and out tumbled Stinky into her waiting paws.  Stinky immediately asked Periwinkle about the approaching storm, Idalia.  She explained that there wasn't anything coming that day and they would be able to have their adventure and he could return home before there was any wind or rain. They shared paw pats and whisker kisses and she took him by the paw and they re-entered the Tunnel together.

It only took a few seconds for them to arrive at their destination.  Stinky jumped up and down when he saw where they were.

"Periwinkle, I have always hoped we would come here.  How cool that we finally are" said Stinky.  As always, Periwinkle had some cool facts about Animal Kingdom.  She explained "Animal Kingdom is a zoological theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida, near Orlando. Owned and operated by The Walt Disney Company through its Parks, Experiences and Products division, it is the largest theme park in the world, covering 580 acres. The park opened on Earth Day, April 22, 1998, and was the fourth theme park built at the resort. The park is dedicated and themed around the natural environment and animal conservation, a philosophy once pioneered by Walt Disney.

Paw in paw, they started to stroll around.  Periwinkle showed Stinky a map to help guide them.

Rather than walk the entire park (since they had time restraints) they decided to join a tour.  Periwinkle explained that most safari's don't guarantee seeing any wildlife but Animal Kingdom guarantees it by implementing tricks and techniques to get the animals to come near the trams.

They were excited to see all the animals.  First they saw a giraffe...
They also saw a gorilla...

The tour passed lots of pretty burds too (sorry Trout Talkin Tabbies)

And elephants...

Periwinkle told Stinky, "Most of the park's animals were acquired in 1997 during the fall; they were held at a rented holding facility in northern Florida for quarantine and observation. Disney hired staff from 69 zoos around the United States to care for the animals. The park opened to the public on April 22, 1998"  She also added that The first animal to be born at Disney’s Animal Kingdom was a kudu, a large African antelope.

Periwinkle let out a loud "SQUEEE" when she spotted the meerkats!

After the tour, they walked around.  Always the climber Stinky HAD to climb up on the Tree of Life!

They decided to cool off a bit  and took a ride down the Kali rapids...

And a ride down the river with Mickey, Minnie and Pluto

Followed by a quick snack at the Rainforest Cafe.

And, as they often do, a trip to the gift shop to find something for their Moms.

They both chose stuffies to bring back.

On the way out, they spotted the big stuffed lion and took a memory photo.

It was time for them to return to Periwinkle's house.  They both said they wanted to return for Pandora, The World of Avatar someday soon.

A quick trip in the Teleportation Tunnel took them back to Periwinkle's house where they visited with Periwinkle's fursibs and her Mom and then spent some time whisker kissing and paw patting.  Soon Stinky entered the Teleportation Tunnel for his return trip.  "Stay safe from the storm," he said as he waved goodbye.

Periwinkle decided to find her Mom to see if there was anything she could do to help with the storm preparations.

Well we certainly hope that Periwinkle's Mom does not have some horrible storm headed directly at her. From what we're seeing on the news it certainly sounds like it's not going to be a good thing. So want a fun trip to have before the storm starts. Please stay safe and dry.

Mom is delighted that you two got to go to Animal Kingdom. She and Dad went in 2000, and they loved it. She is certain it is probably larger and better now. She also learned a lot from Periwinkle that she either didn’t know or had forgotten. Sawyer sends Periwinkle love and whisker kisses. That was a fun date. The last time I was at Disney was 1990 so this place wasn't open yet. XO
