The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

As she usually did on Tuesday mornings, Periwinkle woke up early to prepare for her Adventure with her boyfriend, Stinky.  Periwinkle was a little worried that Stinky might not enjoy this Adventure because they did this once before.  She didn't have much time to worry because the Teleportation Tunnel began to shake and out popped Stinky with a loud WOOSH.  They spent time whisker kissing and paw patting and catching up on the previous week.  Stinky asked Periwinkle about the heavy rain in Florida and she told him they didn't get much but were watching a possible system.  He hugged her and said, "I hope it doesn't come here, I worry about you."  Periwinkle smiled at that.  It made her happy that her boyfriend cared so much about her.

Soon Stinky asked what the plan was for the day.  "I know we did this before but tomorrow is International Box Day and, knowing how much we love boxes, I thought we would spend the day trying out some new ones."  Stinky said he was happy to do that so they decided to try out the boxes Periwinkle's Mom put out for them.

First, they shared an Amazon box.  It was roomy enough for two!  Periwinkle lamented the fact that Amazon was sending a lot of packages in bags.  "BOO HISS" said Stinky.  He loved a good box as much as she did.

They giggled when they remembered the pile of boxes they saw last year...

Both tabbies said, "Thank COD our Moms don't order that much (unless it's treats)"

"Chewy boxes are always fun too.  They have great stuff inside them and are a great place to snooze" said Periwinkle.
Of course, Periwinkle had some background on International Box Day to share with Stinky. "It’s a widely known fact that we cats love boxes and most cat owners just don’t know why. You splash out on a fancy bed for us but we insist on staying in the box. What gives?

Cats get comfort and security from enclosed spaces, making boxes the perfect place to curl up in. Boxes are a great hiding place from predators and they also help reduce stress by offering a safe zone where we can observe and not be seen."  Stinky agreed that boxes can make you feel safer than some cat beds.

Periwinkle also had a timeline of International Box Day. (You might need to biggify to read it)

Periwinkle continued, "There are lots of ways our parents can celebrate with us or help us celebrate.  Like my Mom did, they can find cool boxes for us to enjoy, they can watch videos with us while we relax in a box and they can make us box forts.  Here's one of the cute boxes my Mom picked out for us."

Stinky agreed that Periwinkle looked great in that box.  They tried out a couple of other boxes too.

"I picked this one because one of the cats reminded me of my fursib, Angel Mau" said Stinky.  Periwinkle gave him a comforting hug as they remembered Angel Mau.

"I just thought these kitties were cute so I picked this one," said Periwinkle.

When they saw this box, they jumped in together and whisker kissed "I love YOU" to each other.

Of course, Stinky HAD to take a box outside and climb in a tree.  Periwinkle just rolled her eyes and was thankful that he wasn't up too high.

Periwinkle and Stinky both agreed that house cats weren't the only ones who liked boxes.  Big cats have just as much fun in boxes.

Periwinkle found a video of big cats in boxes...

It was almost time for Stinky to return home so they decided to have a snack outside.  Periwinkle was surprised when she saw Stinky floating in the pool.  After all, cats are not fans of water.

After Stinky dried off and they had their snack, the two spent some more time whisker kissing and Stinky visited a bit with Periwinkle's Mom and fursibs.  He thanked her Mom for finding the cool boxes for them and apologized for getting all wet in the pool.  He entered the Teleportation Tunnel and, with a WOOSH, headed home.  Periwinkle got into the "I Love My Kitty" box and took a nap, dreaming about her handsome boyfriend.

This was super fun with somme very cool boxes. Did you know that Manx cats are supposed to like water? We’ve never tested out this theory with either Stinky or Sawyer. You all found some really special boxes! This was a super fun adventure. Stinky says, “thanks,” and Sawyer sends Noelle love and oodles of paw hugs. Oona: "Oona loves her Chewy boxes! She has two big ones that she's had since she was a kitten! They are full of wonderful crinkly paper! Bean keeps stealing the paper to shred, though."
Java Bean: "Ayyy, but then new packages arrive and Dada uses the paper from them to refill the papers that I stole."
Oona: "Yes, and then you steal the new papers. Oona does not approve!"

What an epic demonstration of how "if it fits I sit!"......boxes are wonderful spots for us to hide and "nest" in and play games in. Mom has to save BIG boxes for me but I think the best box-lover was my angel brother Sammy. He loved being pulled around in a box by Mom. Loved it until he went to the Rainbow Bridge.....

Hugs, Teddy
