The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

Periwinkle paced in front of the Teleportation Tunnel as she waited for Stinky's arrival.  She planned a couple of things for the day and hoped he would be on time.  Of course, Stinky was always punctual and she saw the Tunnel start to shake and, with a WOOSH, he popped out right on time.  She caught him in her paws and they spent time whisker kissing and paw patting.

Stinky looked in the family room and immediately knew what they were doing.  "Oh cool, we're going to be decorating for the 4th today," he said enthusiastically.  He loved helping Periwinkle and her Mom decorate.

Periwinkle said they needed to get right to work because she had something else planned.  Stinky wasn't sure what she meant but he went along with her.

First, he went outside and put up the 4th of July flag...

He added more flags around the edge to make it even more festive...

When he finished, he went inside where Periwinkle was decorating the fireplace.  He complimented her on how nice it looked.

Always the climber, Stinky decided to start decorating the entertainment center.  Periwinkle just rolled her eyes since she knew he could never resist going up high.

Periwinkle also checked on Huggy Kitty because she knew how scared her sisfur Noelle got when there were loud boomies.

Periwinkle and Stinky took some time to discuss what can be done to keep your cat safe and comfortable on the 4th.  Periwinkle, as always, had lots of good info. "Keeping your cat safe on the 4th of July involves taking steps to minimize stress and ensure their environment is secure. Here are some tips to help:
  1. Create a Safe Space: Set up a quiet, comfortable area in your home where your cat can retreat to. Include their favorite bed, toys, and maybe some calming pheromone diffusers like Feliway.

  2. Keep Them Indoors: Ensure your cat stays indoors, especially during fireworks. Close windows and doors to prevent them from escaping if they get scared.

  3. Block Out Noise: Use white noise machines, fans, or calming music to drown out the sound of fireworks. Closing curtains and blinds can also help block out the flashing lights.

  4. Provide Distractions: Engage your cat with interactive toys, treat puzzles, or extra playtime to keep their mind occupied.

  5. Stay Calm: Your cat can pick up on your emotions, so try to stay calm and reassuring. Act normally and avoid making a big fuss over the fireworks.

  6. Identification: Ensure your cat has up-to-date identification, such as a collar with a tag and a microchip, in case they manage to escape.

  7. Comforting Products: Consider using calming aids like Thundershirts, calming collars, or vet-recommended supplements to help reduce anxiety.

  8. Consult Your Vet: If your cat has severe anxiety, consult your veterinarian for advice. They may recommend medication or additional calming strategies.

By preparing in advance and creating a safe, soothing environment, you can help your cat feel more secure and reduce their stress during the 4th of July celebrations."

Stinky told Periwinkle how impurressed he was with her research which made her blush.

"Now that we finished decorating, we can start part two of our Adventure for today" said Periwinkle.  She handed Stinky a hat and scarf and said "Happy Belated Birthday" which surprised him.  "I know your birthday was yesterday but I figured you wouldn't mind if we celebrated today" she said.  He agreed that any celebration was fun when they were together.

We have lots of great noms!  Cat pizzas...

Tuna sandwiches...

Fish dip...

We have an assortment of nip wines

 and some nip dip!

Of course, we also have Real Live Dead Shrimp.

Your brofur Cooper Murphy was nice enough to bake a cake too and he even made cake toppers that look like US!

When we're done eating, we can play pin the grin on the cat...

The tabbies went out to the pool deck to finish up their snacks and spend time whisker kissing and paw patting.

When it was time for Stinky to leave, he saw the favors and wanted to let his pals all know they could take a stuffie and a bag of Temptations home with them as a remembrance of his party.

They took a quick snooze and then Stinky had to get into the Tunnel to go home.  He thanked Periwinkle for a pawsome day and they whisker kissed again before he left.  With a WOOSH, he was gone and Periwinkle decided to check on the decorations one more time.

Charlee: "Ooh, we have heard that our Mama and Dada used to have that exact same blue cat wine bottle, along with a lot of other blue bottles, that they used to have up on top of the fireplace! But apparently they all got taken down and put away right around the time that Chaplin and I came along."
Chaplin: "Why did they take the bottles down? It would have been a lot of fun to shove them off the fireplace and listen to them smash on the tile. Oh, wait, I think I just answered my own question ..."
