Periwinkle excitedly waited at the Teleportation Tunnel for the arrival of Stinky. She hoped he wouldn't be disappointed in their Adventure but she knew that any time they spent together was purrfect. She didn't have to wait long for the Tunnel to start to shake and, with a WOOSH, out popped Stinky. She ran up to him, and they hugged, whisker-kissed, and paw-patted.
Eventually, Stinky asked what they were doing for their Adventure. Periwinkle said, "I know we have already done this, but I think it's impawtent to remind our friends that today is World Spay Day. Isn't this badge from the Cat Blogosphere great?" Stinky agreed that it was pawsome!
Periwinkle continued, "World Spay Day is a special day that reminds humans to spay and neuter pets so fewer animals end up homeless and more kitties can live safe, healthy lives.
World Spay Day is celebrated every year on the last Tuesday in February. It was started by the organization Humane Society of the United States to help people understand why spaying and neutering pets is such a big deal.
Of course, we're cartoon kitties, so we didn't have to be spayed or neutered, but spaying (for girl kitties like me) and neutering (for boy kitties like you) is a safe surgery that helps:
Prevent surprise litters of kittens πΎ
Reduce certain health problems
Decrease roaming and fighting
Keep shelters from getting overcrowded
When pets aren’t spayed or neutered, there can be more kittens and puppies than there are homes. That means some animals end up in shelters, and not all of them find families. And that makes my whiskers droop and my eyes get leaky. World Spay Day is basically humans saying, “We care about animals. We want fewer homeless pets. We want healthier, happier lives for them.”It’s not about taking away anyone’s sparkle. It’s about protecting it. So we're reminding our blogging friends, if you have pets, talk to your vet about spaying or neutering. It’s one small step for humans… and one giant leap for kitty-kind."
Stinky told Periwinkle he was (again) impurressed by the information she gathered. She blushed and thanked him. Stinky was always such a sweet mancat. Their tummies were starting to rumble so they decided to have a snack of Fancy Feast.
While they enjoyed their snack, Stinky said, "We should tell our friends about the extra Adventure we had a couple of weeks ago." Periwinkle agreed, and Stinky went on to say, "At the beginning of February, the weather got REALLY cold in Florida, and Periwinkle invited me to come for an extra visit." "I had a surprise for Stinky, and I didn't want him to miss it," she said. Both tabbies knew that their regular friends would guess what the surprise was, and together they exclaimed, "The Manatees were here."
For the most part, Stinky behaved, but he did run to the other side of the canal to get closer to a manatee whose snout was out of the water. Periwinkle sighed, but was glad he didn't climb on anything!
I remember we felt bad for this guy who had a lot of barnacles on his back.
They stopped at the picnic table for a memory photo.
"We sure had fun that day, didn't we?" said Periwinkle. Stinky agreed and said he always had fun when they were together. Periwinkle told him she was glad because she knew that sharing the World Spa Day information was something they did every year, she knew it was impawtent to make sure everyone knew about it.
WOW - it's great that the manatees made their usual winter trip and you two got to see them.......We are also 100% happy for the reminder that spaying is so very important. Glad the adventurous two had a lovely time together on "their day" !
Stinky was so happy they got to visit the manatees. They look like submarines just coming to the surface of the water. World Spay Day is so important, reminding our friends every year is super important too! Mom was surprised by the statistics of 2.8 kittens per litter surviving. To think the litter she fostered had 8 is pretty amazing. When she was growing up, they had a cat that had nine kittens. Angel Sawyer sends Noelle hi as forever love. Two great adventure stories for the price of one!

I wonder if there is any way at all to get barnacles off the manatees backs?
