The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

Tuesdays were always such fun, and this one was no different.  Periwinkle couldn't wait for the arrival of her fiancé, Stinky, so they could spend time together and share an Adventure.  She quietly groomed her furs and watched the Teleportation Tunnel for a sign that he was about to arrive.  Soon, the Tunnel began to shake and, with a WOOSH, he flew out and almost knocked her over with a big hug. They spent time whisker-kissing and paw-patting.  All of a sudden, Stinky reached into the bag he brought and said, "¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo!" while putting on his sombrero.
Periwinkle laughed and reached around and put hers on too.
The two giggled, and Stinky said, "I figured we would be doing something for Cinco de Mayo, so I brought my sombrero."  Periwinkle said they were and that they had something else to share, too.  "I thought it would be fun to invite the band we saw when we did Cinco de Mayo in the past.  Stinky was thrilled to see them again.  The band spent some time telling Periwinkle and Stinky how much they enjoy reading their Adventures every week.

The band also brought along two kittens who were in training for next year.  Of course, Periwinkle let out a big SQUEEE and ran right over to check them out.
Both Tabbies found themselves tapping their paws and spontaneously started to dance to the music. (We're working on finding a new video program, so please ignore the fact that Stinky has a tail in the video. If you have a program you like, please let us know.)

They also tapped their paws to this very old JibJab video.  Their fursibs and friends are all Angels now except for sweeet Teddy.  Click HERE to see the JibJab

When they stopped dancing and giggling over the JibJab, Periwinkle explained the meaning of Cinco de Mayo, saying, "Cinco de Mayo means ‘Fifth of May’ in Spanish, but it is not Mexico’s Independence Day. Nope! It actually celebrates a very specific moment in history—the Battle of Puebla.”

Stinky blinks. “A battle? That sounds… loud and skeery.”

“It probably was,” Periwinkle says, nodding. “Back in 1862, Mexico was facing a powerful army from France. The French army was bigger, better equipped, and very sure they would win. But—this is the exciting part—Mexico’s smaller army surprised everyone and won the battle near a place called Puebla!”

Stinky thought it was cool that the smaller army won and said, “So Cinco de Mayo is really about courage, resilience, and standing strong even when things seem impossible. But why do people celebrate it with tacos and music?”

Periwinkle smiled. “Well, in the United States especially, it’s grown into a celebration of Mexican culture and heritage—with delicious food, colorful decorations, music, and dancing. It’s like a big, joyful ‘hooray!’ for culture and history all wrapped together.”

Stinky thinks for a moment. “So it’s not just a party… it means something.”

Periwinkle nodded gently. “The best celebrations always do.”

Stinky grins. “Can we celebrate with snacks and bravery?”

Periwinkle laughs. “Absolutely. Brave hearts and tasty treats—a perfect combination.  Remember the picnic we had one year?  I set it up for us to enjoy at the beach when we are through."  Stinky was glad to hear there would be snacks since he was already getting hungry.   "What's the next part of our Adventure?" he asked.

Periwinkle said, "Mother's Day is not very far off and I thought our friends might like some ideas for shopping.  I think it would be nice if we shared some of our Cat Blogosphere friends' items."  Stinky agreed that it was good to support pals.

They went to Periwinkle's Moms' PC to search for sites to shop.  First they went to the Cat Blogosphere's Etsy Shop, which is run by Angel Brian's dad, Terry.

The store is Gifting Topia and has all kinds of pawsome gifts like shirts, mugs, bags, like this cute tabby cat bag.  Click HERE for the link.

Periwinkle said her Mom got a cute flag from the shop, and she knows others who bought similar items and loved them.

Stinky said, "If your Mom likes to read, there are plenty of options.  Mom Ellen from 15andmeowing is a writer and just published a new book, My Friend Joanie.  Click HERE to purchase it on Amazon."
Periwinkle agreed it would be a good choice.  "My Mom has Prancie's Prayer, and we love reading it together.

Both tabbies agreed that Peaches and Paprika (of slideshow fame!) have an excellent Etsy shop too.

Periwinkle said, "Their shop is called Colorful Cat Canvases.  My Mom got a mug with Noelle on it from last year's Easter slideshow.  Isn't it cute?"

If you're not familiar with their slideshows, click HERE to see the 2026 Easter one!  Noelle is at the 25-second mark.

Rumbling tummies reminded the two that it was time for a snack.  Periwinkle guided Stinky out to the Mexican-themed picnic she prepared for them at the beach.

Full tummies made them sleepy, so they found a soft and cozy cat bed and fell asleep holding paws.  When they woke up, they whisker-kissed,  paw-patted, and said "I love you" to each other.  Periwinkle told Stinky she was impurressed by how well-behaved he was.  Stinky admitted it was difficult, but was glad she noticed.  Stinky visited with Periwinkle's fursibs and her Mom and, with one more whisker kiss, jumped into the Teleportation Tunnel and headed home.  Periwinkle spent a little more time Mother's Day shopping before taking another quick nap to dream of her handsome fiancé.

Happy Cinco de Mayo from Reesie and Noelle too!
