The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

Before Periwinkle and Stinky start their Adventure, we want to wish our Angels Sniffie and Cory a very happy birthday at the Bridge.  We miss these beautiful ladycats so much and hope they are having a BIG party at the Bridge with all our other Angels.

Now, on to the Adventure!

Periwinkle waited in front of the Teleportation Tunnel for the arrival of her fiancé, Stinky.  She made sure her furs looked nice and hoped he would like what she planned for their Adventure.  She didn't have to wait for long because, right on schedule, she saw the tunnel shake and thought to herself, "He's here!" She purred as she heard the familiar WOOSH of Stinky's Teleportation Tunnel opening. Out stepped her handsome fiancé, complete with his bright red sneakers. "Paw pats!" Stinky grinned."Whisker kisses!" she answered.  They giggled at their greetings and spent some time actually doing paw pats and whisker kisses. In a little while, Periwinkle asked, "Ready for another Tuesday Adventure?" Stinky replied, "I've been ready all morning!"  Periwinkle told Stinky they had a few different things planned for the day.  Stinky said he thought that was fun.

"First we're celebrating Cow Appreciation Day."  That made Stinky giggle again.  Periwinkle rolled her eyes but continued. "There are roughly 1.5 billion cattle in the world, making them one of the most numerous large mammals on the planet. The United States has around 9 million dairy cows, kept in roughly 75,000 herds, and about 90 per cent of them are Holsteins, the familiar black-and-white breed.
An average dairy cow produces between 7 and 9 gallons of milk a day, and US cows now produce around four times more milk per animal than they did in 1945. Every cow’s spotted hide pattern is unique, much like a human fingerprint, so no two Holsteins look exactly the same. Cows have excellent memories and can recognise faces and recall positive and negative experiences for more than two years.
A cow has one stomach with four compartments and can chew its cud for up to eight hours a day, producing as much as 125 pounds of saliva."  They both said "EWWWW" when they read about the saliva.

Periwinkle explained they were going back into the Teleportation Tunnel for a quick trip to see some cows. Stinky knew people would Moo at cows from their cars (which they both thought was weird, but he thought he would try it.) "MOOOOOOO," Stinky called to the cows. One curious brown-and-white cow answered with a cheerful, "Moooo!" "I think she likes you," Periwinkle giggled. "I've always wanted to speak another language, and now I speak Cow," Stinky laughed. They thanked the cows for all they do—from providing milk that becomes cheese, yogurt, and ice cream to helping farmers around the world. The cows were happy to pose for pictures while they handed out crunchy apples and enjoyed watching the calves play tag around the pasture.  They even put on Cow costumes to make the cows feel more comfortable!

Before they left, they all shouted together..."Moooo-velous day!"

As they approached the Teleportation Tunnel, they heard music. Paw in paw, they went to check out what was happening.  They were amazed at what they saw. Cats and dogs were dancing.  There was a goat in a funny hat. A chicken somehow became the parade marshal. "This is purrfect for pandemonium day. What could possibly go wrong?" Stinky asked. Just then...A flock of ducks waddled through the parade. And bubbles floated everywhere. Suddenly, the parade marshal (chicken) shouted out, "Look, it's Periwinkle and Stinky.  Come join us!"  Always up for a fun adventure, they did!

The tabbies said goodbye to their new friends and hopped back into the Teleportation Tunnel to return to Periwinkle's house.  When they got there, they both commented on how very hot it was.  Stinky laughed and said, "I'm glad it's Air Conditioning Appreciation Days (July 3- August 15)." Periwinkle giggled and said, "And also Dog Days of Summer (July 3 - August 11)."

I have one more thing for us to do before we enjoy a snack.  Today is also National Tape Measure Day!  I got Mom's tape measure out for us.

"I wonder how long your tail is," Stinky teased. Periwinkle laughed and said, "Good luck measuring yours!" Stinky looked behind himself, giggled again, and said, "Oh...right."  Periwinkle gave him a hug and said, "That's okay, to me you're purrfect" which made him blush.

They measured everything we could find! In the garage, the workbench was 6 feet long. The toolbox was 24 inches wide. Their whiskers stretched almost 4 inches. Stinky's red sneakers were exactly the right size for his paws. Then they wondered...How tall is the world's tallest sunflower?"And how long is an alligator?" Soon they were measuring flowers, benches, birdhouses, and even each other's ears.

After a while, they grew tired and decided to take a nap.  Lots of paw pats and whisker kisses were shared until they both fell asleep.  When they woke up, they decided it was too hot outside for their snack, so they enjoyed it in the cool Air Conditioning and once again said how much they appreciated it.

After their snack, they spent time whisker-kissing, paw-patting, and, of course, saying "I love you" to each other.  Periwinkle thanked Stinky for not getting into any mischief.  She was concerned he would at the parade, but he behaved himself.  He thanked her and said he was trying to be good during their Adventures. Stinky visited with Periwinkle's Mom and fursibs and then stepped into the Teleportation Tunnel for his trip home.  One last whisker kiss and, with a WOOSH, he headed home.  Periwinkle cleaned up from their snack and took a nice, long nap dreaming of next Tuesday.
