The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

It was Tuesday and Periwinkle paced back and forth waiting for her special guy, Stinky, to come whooshing through the Teleportation Tunnel.  She put her ear to the tunnel and heard a faint woosh and quickly stepped back just in time as Stinky came flying out!  Giggling, hugging and sharing whisker kisses the two greeted each other.

Stinky noticed that Peiwinkle seemed a bit distracted.  "Periwinkle, are you okay?  You seem distracted."   Periwinkle explained that she needed help from Stinky.  She explained that there was a lizard living in the window track and she couldn't get her paws on him.

Always ready to help Stinky said, "Let me at that lizard!"

Periwinkle showed him where the lizard was living.  Stinky agreed that the lizard would drive him crazy and they needed to do something about it.   The two tabbies looked out again as the lizard moved out of his hiding spot. "Whoa...he's pretty big" said Stinky.

That lizard was no fool!  As soon as he saw Periwinkle and Stinky he headed back to his hiding spot.

"This calls for a better strategy," said Stinky.  Periwinkle agreed but said she'd been trying for weeks and had no idea what to do.

After a while, both tabbies started to feel sleepy.  Gentlemancat that he is, Stinky offered to keep watching the lizard so Periwinkle could take a short nap.  Periwinkle got into the cozy scratcher house to take a nap.

Unfortunately, Stinky couldn't keep his eyes open and ended up joining Periwinkle for a nap.  Periwinkle was surprised but happy when she woke up to find him next to her.

"You know Stinky, I think we need to think about how to catch this guy.  How about we go outside for a snack before you have to leave for home?" said Periwinkle.  "Good idea!" replied Stinky.

After their snack and a short visit with Periwinkle's fursibs, it was time for Stinky to head home.  He promised Periwinkle that he would keep thinking of a way to get that lizard.   Periwinkle said she knew he would figure it out because he was the smartest cat she ever met.  That made Stinky blush but he was pleased that she thought that he was smart.  The two spent some time holding paws, sharing whisker kisses and hugging.  One last hug and Stinky entered the Teleportation Tunnel to head home.  This is what he saw as he left and he vowed that they would figure out how to get that lizard!!

The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

Periwinkle was up super early that morning because she knew Stinky was coming for an adventure.  She paced back and forth in front of the Teleportation Tunnel waiting to hear the familiar WOOSH that would signal Stinky's arrival.

All of a sudden she heard the WOOSH and Stinky came tumbling out of the tunnel right into her paws.  The two giggled, hugged and shared whisker kisses.  They were so happy to be together!

"Hey Periwinkle, I saw that your Mom took a video of the launch the other day, did you get to see it?"  Periwinkle said she was inside the house and only saw it on television and sheepishly admitted that the loud sonic booms scared her.  Stinky hugged her and told her that he probably wouldn't like them either.

Periwinkle told Stinky that they would be staying right in her little city today.  She took his paws and led him to her Mom's carr for a short ride to the beach.

"I recognize this beach, isn't this where I went surfing?  Are we going surfing again?" asked Stinky.  Periwinkle explained that she had something super cool to show him.

It didn't take long for Stinky to see what she was talking about.  Periwinkle explained that it was turtle nesting season and that turtle was about to build a nest for her eggs.

"What's this area for" asked Stinky.  Periwinkle said that every morning the Turtle Preservation Society comes out and looks for new turtle nests and marks them off as protected areas.

Stinky said the tracks almost looked like a car had been there!

Periwinkle explained how the turtles nest.

"The turtle will dig a hole with her hind flippers and fill the nest with soft-shelled eggs. Once the mother turtle fills the nest, the sea turtle will cover it with sand and head back to the ocean. Two months after being laid, the sea turtles hatch at night and scramble to the water. The hatchlings then swim across the Gulf Stream to the Sargasso Sea where they live in seaweed beds until they become juveniles."  Periwinkle added that there were more turtles this year.  Stinky asked why and she explained that there are several reasons why environmentalists say this could be. While warmer temps may play a role, fewer people on the beaches have led to a reduced amount of plastic, trash and beach furniture which serve as obstacles for nesting sea turtles. In addition, curious beachgoers have stayed home and not strayed onto the beaches, flashlights in hand, to search for nests because of COVID-19.
Stinky was impurressed with Periwinkle's knowledge of sea turtles.  "Take my paw and follow me down the beach a little, I want you to meet a GIANT turtle that I found.
"Whoa, that turtle is ginormous!" said Stinky.  Periwinkle said she was an 800 pound leatherback who came ashore.  When she came ashore they saw she was tagged and her name is Vienna! You can read more about Vienna HERE.

Stinky wanted to know if Periwikle ever saw any baby turtles hatch.  She said she hadn't and neither had her Mom but she showed him this video of turtles hatching that she had on her phone.

The two spent some time on the beach watching the waves and the birds. The held paws and shared whisker kisses.  Periwinkle brought a basket with snacks and they had a picnic on the beach.  They were very careful not to leave anything behind when they were done.

Soon it was time to call Periwinkle's Mom to pick them up.  They returned to Periwinkle's house where Stinky visited with Periwinkle's fursibs.  As always, Allie asked him to give Mau a big hug and a kiss for her.  Finally, the two tabbies knew it was time for Stinky to return home.  The shared more hugs, paw pats and whisker kisses and he entered the Teleportation Tunnel to return home.  The two kept eye contact as long as they could.  They both noticed tears in each other's eyes as Stinky left.   With a WOOSH, he was on his way.  Periwinkle hoped he had a good time and went off to take a nap and dream away the hours until their next adventure.

The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

Periwinkle woke up early that morning because she knew this was the day Stinky was coming over for an Adventure.  It seemed like FOREVER since their last visit.  She had so much fun writing limericks with Stinky.

Periwinkle put her ear next to the Teleportation Tunnel and was so happy to hear the familiar WOOOSH!   Just in time, Periwinkle stepped back and out flew Stinky!   The two rushed to each other and shared hugs and whisker kisses.  "How are you feeling today?" asked Periwinkle.  She knew he had had three seizures the week before.   "Mom says I am doing okay but not to do anything too strenuous" replied Stinky.  Periwinkle said they were going to have a fun time but it wouldn't require too much effort for either one of them.  She said they were lucky that the place they were going to had re-opened the previous week. Holding paws, they entered the Teleportation Tunnel.

In the blink of an eye, they got to their destination., The Central Florida Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

"This looks like a cool place" said Stinky.   Periwinkle said she wanted to take him to her local Zoo but they had not opened yet.

The two decided to see some of the animals first and then head to the butterfly garden.

Periwinkle giggled as the giraffe gave her a slurpy kiss.  Stinky wouldn't admit it, but he was a bit jealous!

"Hey Periiwnkle, this guy looks scary but he's really sweet and friendly," said Stinky

Both tabbies giggled when they saw this otter being goofy!

Periwinkle explained that they could take the train to the other areas of the zoo.  Being a ManCat, Stinky was excited to ride the train.

Their first stop on the train was the splash pad playground.  Since neither Periwinkle or Stinky wanted to get their paws or furs wet, they only spent a short time there.

Let's sit for a while said Periwinkle.  She didn't want Stinky to get too tired.  They found a beautiful Swan sculpture to relax by.

After a short rest, Stinky spotted the big chessboard.  "Come on Periwinkle, let's play chess,"  Periwinkle said she had no idea how to play but they two decided to investigate it anyway.

It was time to leave to go back to Periwinkle's house so the two had a memory photo taken.

Holding paws, they stepped into the Teleportation Tunnel to head to Periwinle's house.  Periwinkle's Mom fixed them a snack of Fancy Feast and Temptations and the two sat on the deck by the pool and enjoyed their snack and being with each other.  They held paws and shared whisker kisses between each bite.  They didn't want the day to end.

Finally, it was time for Stinky to go home. After a short visit with Periwinkle's fursibs, Sinky entered the Teleportation Tunnel to return home.  Allie, Periwinkle's sisfur, gave Periwinkle a big hug because she knew how sad Periwinkle was for the day to end.  "Don't feel bad, Periwinkle" Allie said.  "Next Tuesday will be here before you know it!"  Periwinkle hugged her sisfur back, wiped a tear and headed to her Ham-mick to dream about her special guy.
