The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

Periwinkle paced in front of the Teleportation Tunnel while waiting for her boyfriend, Stinky, to arrive for their Adventure.  She quickly groomed her furs and saw the Tunnel shake and, with a WOOSH, Stinky popped out into her waiting paws.  They spent some time snuggling, whisker kissing and paw patting.  Eventually, Stinky asked her what she had planned for the day.

"Yesterday was Pet Fire Safety Day so I thought it would be good to remind our friends of things they can do to keep their pets and family safe from fire."  Sinky agreed it was a great idea and the two set out to demonstrate some safety tips.

"Let's start with one of the obvious dangers to pets, open flames," said Periwinkle. She went on to say "My Mom doesn't use candles anymore and has switched to flameless, battery-operated candles"

Both Tabbies agreed these...
are safer than these...

"Pets are naturally curious, and won’t hesitate to investigate candles or the fireplace, not understanding the consequences of getting too close. Never leave your pets unattended around open flames, and double-check to ensure they’ve been fully extinguished before leaving the home with your pet inside.  We have an electric fireplace which is safe (and easier for Mom)"

Stinky added, "
Microchips and ID tags with up-to-date contact information make it easier to reunite pets with their owners in case of separation during a fire event."  Periwinkle rolled her eyes and said "That also helps if your pet goes on a walkabout" which made Stinky blush since he knew she was talking about the walkabout he took three years ago.

Periwinkle said she hoped her Mom didn't get mad but she had to share the messy wires under the computer desk and explained that wires can be dangerous if your pet chews them...
"Mom needs to wrap the wires with this."
Stinky added, "
Pets commonly hide during fire events. Make sure firefighters are aware of their presence by using the ASPCA’s free pet safety pack, which includes pet rescue window and door stickers."

"My Mom ordered these for us on Amazon" said Periwinkle.
"Of course, you should order these if you have multiple types of pets."

Both tabbies agreed that smoke detectors were impawtent too and that batteries should be tested regularly.

They also took a few minutes to watch a Fire Safety video.

When they were done with the video, Periwinkle took Stinky by the paw and led him to her Mom's car for a short ride to the beach.  "I have something I want to show you," she said.  Of course, Stinky had to run up to the beach access and jump on the handrail.  Periwinkle sighed but was glad he wasn't up too high.

"Remember how we saw the baby turtles being born on the beach?  I wanted you to see the tracks the mommy turtle makes when she lays her eggs."  Stinky was amazed at how far the mommy turtle traveled up the beach.

He cautiously walked up to where the nest was and was super impurressed by how well the mommy turtle buried her eggs.

Periwinkle pointed out a sign that explained about the next and warned people not to disturb them.

It was almost time for Stinky to head home so they went back to Periwinke's house for a snack and to visit her fursibs and her Mom.  They spent time whisker kissing and paw patting before Stinky had to leave.  With one last whisker kiss, he hopped into the Teleportation Tunnel and was on his way home.  Periwinkle decided to watch the video again with her Mom and fursibs and then took a nap and dreamed of her handsome boyfriend.

This was a wonderfully informative post. Thank you Periwinkle & Stinky. Our mom is super afraid of fire and is very careful around our house, We do have a gas stove. A very long time ago, our fursibs, Chloe, got too close and burnt off some whiskers. Our parents stay very vigilant when using the stove. Sawyer sends Noelle oodles of paw hugs and love, and Stinky thanks Periwinkle for including the trip to the beach. Such a wonderful and most important adventure. We worry about fires too. We're ever so careful with our stove too. No candles here or anything that the kitties can get into and hurt themselves.

Thank you for joining the Happy Tuesday Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Happy Tuesday. Scritches to all the kitties, a smooch to Sawyer and a big hug to the moms. ♥

Fire safety is very important, and please remember to be watching your appliances and not using old ones, those that overheat, or anything with frayed wires.

Anything with a motor or heating element can burn! We've had a refrigerator, a washing machine and two dishwashers catch fire and an old coffee maker almost did. The fridge can't be helped, but the other appliances are never, ever used unless we are home and in each case we stopped the appliance and made sure the fire was out right away.

Never leave a dryer or other appliance running when you aren't home to supervise, unless it's the fridge, and keep it free from hair and dust on the coils.

The fridge burned because my foster son didn't know to unplug it while cleaning it, he kept it open for over an hour while cleaning it out and it overheated. Be sure to turn the fridge off to clean it.

Those are some great fire safety tips, Periwinkle and Stinky. We have those stickers on all of our doors and windows.

We hope all the mom turtle's eggs hatch and do well.
