Even though it was Tuesday, Periwinkle was snoozing in her favorite spot by the window. The Teleportation Tunnel was not in sight, and she was calmly resting. Why? Because Stinky came to visit over the weekend for a special Adventure. Let's go back a few days.
It was early Saturday morning, and Periwinkle was up early, grooming her furs and anticipating the arrival of Stinky. The Teleportation Tunnel began to shake, and with a familiar "whoosh," out popped Stinky. After a few minutes of whisker kissing and paw patting, Stinky said, "Do I hear jets?" Periwinkle said he was correct, and that was their Adventure. The Tabbies ran outside, but all they could see was one plane, and it was already far away.
Periwinkle's Mom drove them to Patrick SFB so they could get a closer look at the F-22 Raptor planes but they really wanted to get closer.
Stinky looked disappointed, but Periwinkle took his paw and told him not to worry because they were actually going to the Cocoa Beach airshow! Because parking was limited, they hopped into the Tunnel together and landed right by the beach. The two tabby cats padded down to the beach where a crowd was already gathering. Humans were setting up umbrellas, waving little flags, and slathering on sunscreen. Periwinkle and Stinky found a shady spot under an umbrella.
Suddenly, the roar of engines thundered across the sky. “Look, Stinky!” Periwinkle pointed with her paw. “It’s the F-22 Raptor!” The jet soared over the ocean, with an ear-splitting roar. Stinky’s fur puffed up in excitement. “Wow! It can turn upside-down! Do you think I could fly one?” Rolling her eyes, she replied, “You need to keep your paws on the ground and behave!"
They saw lots of other great planes like the EA-18G Growler...
The 920th Rescue Wing showcased a daring helicopter mission featuring parachutes and rescue swimmers. Both Periwinkle and Stinky were shocked when they came to Stinky and asked him to pawticpate. They knew he enjoyed high places and had excellent climbing abilities. He was a little scared but excited to be part of their exhibition. Periwinkle crossed her paws that he would be safe, but beamed with pride because he was so brave.
The noise from the planes was a little loud, but the two didn't want to stop watching. Eventually, they both agreed their paws were getting hot and it was time to Teleport back to Periwinkle's house.
When they got there, they had a cool drink of water and enjoyed a quick snack. They made an AI graphic to remember their day. (Did you notice their furs are the right color and Stinky doesn't have a tail?)
They spent time telling Periwinkle's Mom and fursibs all about their Adventure and then cuddle time, whisker kissing, and paw patting. Soon, it was time for Stinky to head home. With a whisker kiss and a WOOSH, he was on his way home.
Always thinking of their viewers, they wanted to remind you that today is Pet Fire Safety Day. Click HERE to see last year's post.
We found some videos of the Air Show to share with you. We hope you enjoy them.
Periwinkle paced in front of the Teleportation Tunnel while waiting for her boyfriend, Stinky, to arrive for their Adventure. She quickly groomed her furs and saw the Tunnel shake and, with a WOOSH, Stinky popped out into her waiting paws. They spent some time snuggling, whisker kissing and paw patting. Eventually, Stinky asked her what she had planned for the day.
"Yesterday was Pet Fire Safety Day so I thought it would be good to remind our friends of things they can do to keep their pets and family safe from fire." Sinky agreed it was a great idea and the two set out to demonstrate some safety tips.
"Let's start with one of the obvious dangers to pets, open flames," said Periwinkle. She went on to say "My Mom doesn't use candles anymore and has switched to flameless, battery-operated candles"
Both Tabbies agreed these...
are safer than these...
"Pets are naturally curious, and won’t hesitate to investigate candles or the fireplace, not understanding the consequences of getting too close. Never leave your pets unattended around open flames, and double-check to ensure they’ve been fully extinguished before leaving the home with your pet inside. We have an electric fireplace which is safe (and easier for Mom)"
Stinky added, "Microchips and ID tags with up-to-date contact information make it easier to reunite pets with their owners in case of separation during a fire event." Periwinkle rolled her eyes and said "That also helps if your pet goes on a walkabout" which made Stinky blush since he knew she was talking about the walkabout he took three years ago.
Periwinkle said she hoped her Mom didn't get mad but she had to share the messy wires under the computer desk and explained that wires can be dangerous if your pet chews them...
"Mom needs to wrap the wires with this."
Stinky added, "Pets commonly hide during fire events. Make sure firefighters are aware of their presence by using the ASPCA’s free pet safety pack, which includes pet rescue window and door stickers."
"My Mom ordered these for us on Amazon" said Periwinkle.
"Of course, you should order these if you have multiple types of pets."
Both tabbies agreed that smoke detectors were impawtent too and that batteries should be tested regularly.
They also took a few minutes to watch a Fire Safety video.
When they were done with the video, Periwinkle took Stinky by the paw and led him to her Mom's car for a short ride to the beach. "I have something I want to show you," she said. Of course, Stinky had to run up to the beach access and jump on the handrail. Periwinkle sighed but was glad he wasn't up too high.
"Remember how we saw the baby turtles being born on the beach? I wanted you to see the tracks the mommy turtle makes when she lays her eggs." Stinky was amazed at how far the mommy turtle traveled up the beach.
He cautiously walked up to where the nest was and was super impurressed by how well the mommy turtle buried her eggs.
Periwinkle pointed out a sign that explained about the next and warned people not to disturb them.
It was almost time for Stinky to head home so they went back to Periwinke's house for a snack and to visit her fursibs and her Mom. They spent time whisker kissing and paw patting before Stinky had to leave. With one last whisker kiss, he hopped into the Teleportation Tunnel and was on his way home. Periwinkle decided to watch the video again with her Mom and fursibs and then took a nap and dreamed of her handsome boyfriend.
