The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

As always, Periwinkle woke up early and as standing with her ear to the Teleportation Tunnel.  It seemed like ages since she saw her boyfriend, Stinky.  Last week was so special...especially when he asked her to go STEADY!  She smiled as she thought of that and then WOOSH....he was there.

"Hi Periwinkle.  What are you smiling about?" he asked.  She told him how she was remembering last week and said how happy she was to be his steady girlfriend.  She told him she was the luckiest girlcat in the world to be going steady with such a handsome guy.  Stinky blushed and they spent some time catching up, sharing whisker kisses and paw pats.  Stinky asked what they were going to do that day. "I hope this isn't too boring, but today is an important day and I thought it would be good to do a PSA for our friends about World Spay Day" she replied.  Stinky agreed that it was an important message.  "As long as we are together, anything we do is special" he said.

"Tell me more about World Spay Day" said Stinky.  Periwinkle explained  "Launched in 1995, World Spay Day is an annual campaign that aims to encourage people to save animal lives by spaying and neutering companion animals and feral cats. World Spay Day itself is celebrated annually on the fourth Tuesday in February but the event, no matter how big or small, can take place anytime throughout the month of February, which is recognized as Spay/Neuter Awareness Month."

Periwinkle told Stinky that she looked up what was going on in her county and found the following information.

On the last Tuesday of every February, World Spay Day shines a spotlight on the power of affordable, accessible spay/neuter to save the lives of companion animals, community (feral and stray) cats, and dogs throughout Brevard County that our team at Animal Services encounter on a daily basis.

Spaying or neutering offers a variety of health benefits to your pet, including reducing the risk of your pet contracting many life-threatening conditions, and is also the most effective way to reduce the number of homeless pets in our community.

In support of World Spay Day, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office Animal Services Team will be performing 100 spay and neuter surgeries for several of our local rescue partners to include; PURRS, HOPE, Space Coast Feline Network, Friends for Animals Sanctuary, Smiling Dog Rescue, and Purrfect Friends during the month of March at no cost.

Each of these organizations is an amazing partner with our agency and community in trying to do everything we can to protect animals throughout Brevard County.

As always, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is committed to eliminating overpopulation of pets in our community and would like to thank our citizens for all they do to support this amazing effort.

There is no doubt that our agency and community would never have achieved the goals we have without the strong support of our employees, volunteers, private partners, and citizens.

On behalf of all of the Furry Citizens we take care of…Thank You!!

"My brofur, Raz, came from the Space Coast Feline Network." He was neutered before Mom adopted him. Noelle (my alter ego) was spayed by her foster Mom before she came to live with us. She has a tipped ear." "My Mom and Dad made sure that all of my fursibs were spayed or neutered too. Kizmet came to them already spayed." said Stinky.

Both Periwinkle and Stinky were amazed when they read the chart about how many kittens can be born from unspayed female cats.

"Wow, that's a LOT of cats" said Stinky.  Periwinkle agreed and they both said how sad it was that not all of those were as lucky as they were to find great homes.  There are other reasons to spay and neuter too.

"I'm glad we're able to tell all our fans how impawtent this is" said Stinky!

Periwinkle agreed.  After reading more about World Spay Day, the two decided it was time for a snack.

"The weather is so beautiful, let's go out to the pool deck", said Periwinkle.  Stinky agreed.  He said the weather was much colder at his house.   Off they went to spend some time enjoying snacks and just being together.  Stinky remarked at how nice and green everything was at Periwinkle's house and how pretty the flower were.  "Of course, they are not as pretty as you are" he said.  Periwinkle smiled and couldn't hide her blush.

After whisker kisses, paw pats and headbonks, it was time for Stinky to head home.  "I hope today wasn't boring, I just felt it was an impawtent message to share" said Periwinkle.   "Not at all, I love that we can enjoy being together AND share great information with others" he replied.   He stepped into the Teleportation Tunnel and with a WOOOSH, he was headed home.   Periwinkle found a sun puddle and napped while dreaming of their next adventure.

The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

Periwinkle sat in front of the Teleportation Tunnel and groomed her furs as she waited for the arrival of her fiance, Stinky.  She didn't have to wait too long before the Tunnel started to shake and, with a WOOOSH, he flew out into her waiting paws.  Seeing Stinky always made her heart race with joy and they both felt the excitement of being together again.  They spent time whisker kissing and paw patting and then Stinky asked what they would be doing.   Periwinkle said they were doing something they had done before but was super impawtent.  "We're going to remind our readers about World Spay Day" she said.

Stinky said he didn't mind repeating something so impawtent.  "I remember what you told me last time, World Spay Day was launched in 1995, World Spay Day is an annual campaign that aims to encourage people to save animal lives by spaying and neutering companion animals and feral cats. World Spay Day itself is celebrated annually on the fourth Tuesday in February. Still, the event, no matter how big or small, can take place anytime throughout February, which is recognized as Spay/Neuter Awareness Month."  Periwinkle was impurressed that he remembered so much about the event and told him so.  Always modest, Stinky blushed but was pleased with the compliment.   Both tabbies gasped when they saw how many kittens could be born from one unspayed cat.

Stinky told Periwinkle that all the Kitties Blue were spayed or neutered.  Periwinkle said her fusibs Noelle and Reesie were too.  Periwinkle said, "Sadly, many kitties are euthanized because they can't find homes."

Stinky added, "There are a lot of other reasons to Spay and Neuter too.  I found a chart that explains some of the reasons.

Both tabbies agreed that spaying and neutering helps there be fewer animals without homes and keeps them safe and happy.

"So", Stinky said, "World Spay Day is about reminding everyone to help animals by making sure there are enough loving homes for them and that they stay healthy! World Spay Day is celebrated all over the world, from the United States to countries in Europe, Asia, and beyond! Many animal organizations offer free or low-cost spay/neuter services on this day."  Periwinkle added, "World Spay Day also encourages people to adopt pets from shelters."

Stinky said, "I'm glad we took our time today to share this information.  If we save even one life, it's worth it."  Periwinkle agreed and took Stinky by the paw and gave him a big whisker kiss.  "I'm so glad you agree with me," she said.  "Let's go outside and have a snack before you have to leave,"  Stinky said he agreed since his tummy was rumbling.

Stinky enjoyed the warm weather since it was still cold at his house.  They savored their snack and then spent some time visiting with Periwinkle's Mom and fursibs.  They also snuggled and whisker kissed for a bit.  Soon it was time for Stinky to re-enter the Teleportation Tunnel to go home.  With a WOOSH, he was on his way home.  Periwinkle decided to find a sun spot and take a nap.

The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

Periwinkle woke up early because she was so excited that her boyfriend Stinky was coming to visit today.  She  waited all week for Tuesdays to come.  As she sat by the Teleportation Tunnel she daydreamed about her handsome guy and then with a WOOSH, there he was in her arms.  The two spent time whisker kissing and catching up on the past week.

"Remember a few weeks ago when we visited the Manatees?" asked Periwinkle.  "I sure do" said Stinky.  Periwinkle explained that the cold weather right after his visit brought even more Manatees in.  She led him to her Mom's computer to show him a video.

"Are we going back there today?" asked Stinky.  Periwinkle said they were actually staying at her house but that they had an important message to share with their friends.

"Today is a special day" said Periwinkle.  Stinky laughed and asked if they were celebrating National Walk Your Dog Day.  Periwinkle looked at him and they both started giggling and then were laughing so hard they could hardly stop.   "Silly boy, neither one of us has a dog" said Periwinkle.  They started to giggle again but eventually Stinky asked what their plan was.

"Well we really should celebrate TWOSDAY!" said Periwinkle.  That got them giggling again!!

Once they settled down again, Periwinkle said "Today is important because it is World Spay Day.

It's part of Spay and Neuter Awareness Month.  Each year many dogs and cats and other animals are euthanized because they don't have responsible owners.  We're lucky because our parents made sure we were so we wouldn't add to the number of homeless pets" said Periwinkle.  Stinky agreed that was an important message and then said "So, if we got married someday we wouldn't have kittens"  At the thought of marrying Stinky, Periwinkle blushed and smiled but said that was true.

Periwinkle said that the  Doris Day Animal League founded Spay Day USA in 1994 to bring attention to the pet overpopulation problem in the United States and encourage animal population control by neutering pets. The movement later spread globally and is now known as World Spay Day.  She then shared the following facts:
  •  Spay Day USA is a day of awareness of both neutering and spaying.
  • In spite of what some people think, Spaying or neutering has to be done at an early age, before the first heat for females and before the 6 months for males.
  • Quite a lot of states in the USA and countries around the world have programs at a lower cost.  There are lots of places around that do this which makes it an affordable surgery for many.
  • Neutering or spaying at an early age also helps in nixing aggression levels.
  • It has been observed that neutered dogs focus more on the owners and do not wander away either.
  • Neutering your cat will help prevent spraying.

"I hope you weren't bored with our Adventure today, but I think it's an important message we need to share.  We're lucky because our families have made sure neither one of us or our fursibs will add to overpopulation" said Periwinkle.  Stinky told Periwinkle he was impurressed with all the information she found.

"That was a lot of work and it sure made me hungry" said Stinky.  Since it was a nice day, the two headed for the pool deck to enjoy a snack.  Stinky was surprised at how green everything was since it was still cold at his house.

After snacks, the tabbies decided to take a short nap, and then Stinky visited with Periwinkle's Mom and fursibs.  Too soon it was time for Stinky to enter the Teleportation Tunnel to head home.  The two spent some more time whisker kissing and paw patting and then Stinky entered the tunnel.  He blew a final kiss to Periwinkle and with a WOOSH was on his way home.

Periwinkle wiped a tear and headed to her favorite napping spot to dream of Stinky and their next Adventure.

The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

Periwinkle excitedly waited at the Teleportation Tunnel for the arrival of Stinky.  She hoped he wouldn't be disappointed in their Adventure but she knew that any time they spent together was purrfect. She didn't have to wait long for the Tunnel to start to shake and, with a WOOSH, out popped Stinky.  She ran up to him, and they hugged, whisker-kissed, and paw-patted.

Eventually, Stinky asked what they were doing for their Adventure.  Periwinkle said, "I know we have already done this, but I think it's impawtent to remind our friends that today is World Spay Day. Isn't this badge from the Cat Blogosphere great?"  Stinky agreed that it was pawsome!

Periwinkle continued, "World Spay Day is a special day that reminds humans to spay and neuter pets so fewer animals end up homeless and more kitties can live safe, healthy lives.

World Spay Day is celebrated every year on the last Tuesday in February. It was started by the organization Humane Society of the United States to help people understand why spaying and neutering pets is such a big deal.

Of course, we're cartoon kitties, so we didn't have to be spayed or neutered, but spaying (for girl kitties like me) and neutering (for boy kitties like you) is a safe surgery that helps:

  • Prevent surprise litters of kittens 🐾

  • Reduce certain health problems

  • Decrease roaming and fighting

  • Keep shelters from getting overcrowded

When pets aren’t spayed or neutered, there can be more kittens and puppies than there are homes. That means some animals end up in shelters, and not all of them find families. And that makes my whiskers droop and my eyes get leaky. World Spay Day is basically humans saying, “We care about animals. We want fewer homeless pets. We want healthier, happier lives for them.”It’s not about taking away anyone’s sparkle. It’s about protecting it. So we're reminding our blogging friends, if you have pets, talk to your vet about spaying or neutering. It’s one small step for humans… and one giant leap for kitty-kind."

Stinky told Periwinkle he was (again) impurressed by the information she gathered.  She blushed and thanked him.  Stinky was always such a sweet mancat.  Their tummies were starting to rumble so they decided to have a snack of Fancy Feast.

While they enjoyed their snack, Stinky said, "We should tell our friends about the extra Adventure we had a couple of weeks ago."  Periwinkle agreed, and Stinky went on to say, "At the beginning of February, the weather got REALLY cold in Florida, and Periwinkle invited me to come for an extra visit." "I had a surprise for Stinky, and I didn't want him to miss it," she said.  Both tabbies knew that their regular friends would guess what the surprise was, and together they exclaimed, "The Manatees were here."

For the most part, Stinky behaved, but he did run to the other side of the canal to get closer to a manatee whose snout was out of the water.  Periwinkle sighed, but was glad he didn't climb on anything!

I remember we felt bad for this guy who had a lot of barnacles on his back.

They stopped at the picnic table for a memory photo.

"We sure had fun that day, didn't we?" said Periwinkle.  Stinky agreed and said he always had fun when they were together.  Periwinkle told him she was glad because she knew that sharing the World Spa Day information was something they did every year, she knew it was impawtent to make sure everyone knew about it.

After their snack, they spent time snuggling, whisker kissing, and paw-patting.  Stinky visited with Periwinkle's fursibs, thanked her Mom for the snack, and, with one last whisker kiss and a WOOSH, he entered the Teleportation Tunnel and headed home.  As she often did after Stinky left, she found a sun puddle and took a nap, dreaming of her handsome fiancé.

Periwinkle and Stinky took a video when they visited the Manatees.  They hope you enjoy it.

The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

Periwinkle was at the Teleportation Tunnel entrance eagerly awaiting the arrival of her boyfriend, Stinky.  She hoped he would like what she planned for today.  They always had fun together no matter what they did.

With the familiar WOOOSH, out tumbled Stinky and Periwinkle ran to catch him.  They shared whisker kisses and paw pats and caught each other up on the past week (including Christmas).  Always ready to have an adventure, Stinky asked where they were going and Periwinkle saw the disappointed look on his face when she said they were staying at her house.  "We've all been so busy with the holiday, I thought it would be nice to snuggle together and look at photos of all the fun things we've done together this year," said Periwinkle.  The idea of snuggling sounded great to Stinky, so he said he thought it was great.

The tabbies knew they had quite a few fun Adventures at Periwinkle's and more great ones at Stinky's house, so they decided to narrow it down to a few that they had at Periwinkle's house.
Of course, there were the regular ones they did every year, like visiting Walter and the black cats and saving the turkeys and lots of fun times decorating Periwinkle's house.

"We sure had fun at McKee Gardens, didn't we?"  said Periwinkle.

Both agreed the Blessing of the Pets was very special.

And, of course, the Dinosaur store!

"I sure liked going to see Artemis too," said Stinky

Both Periwinkle and Stinky said "Cat'n Around" at the same time!

"Butterfly World was pretty pawsome too" said Periwinkle.

Stinky recalled how much fun they had at Harry Potter's world too.

Periwinkle mentioned how much fun they had in Key West!

"Legoland was a blast too" said Stinky.

Star Wars Day was another special Adventure.

There were also some special days like World Spay Day.

Both tabbies giggled when they recalled Stinky's surfing lessons!

After a while, they realized it was almost time for Stinky to head home.  For fun, they decided to dress up in their New Year's outfits for lunch since they would not be together on New Year's Eve.

After lunch, they spent some time whisker kissing and paw patting.  Periwinkle told Stinky she would be thinking of him at midnight on New Year's Eve and he told her he hoped the boomies wouldn't be too scary that night. Stinky got into the Teleportation Tunnel and with a WOOSH, he was on his way home.  Periwinkle went to find a nice sunpupddle to sit in and dream about her handsome boyfriend and all the sweet memories they shared.

The Adventures of Periwinkle and Stinky

Periwinkle stood next to the Teleportation Tunnel waiting for the arrival of her fiancé, Stinky.  They had so much fun celebrating her Gotcha Day on their last Adventure, she hoped he would enjoy what she planned for today.  Soon, the Tunnel began to shake and, with a WOOSH, he flew out right into her waiting paws.  They whisker-kissed, paw-patted, and spent time talking about their Christmas.  Periwinkle said she and her fursibs were relieved Santa didn't see them being naughty.  Stinky said he was glad Santa didn't see him doing naughty things, but that he didn't think Periwinkle ever did anything she shouldn't.

Finally, Stinky asked what the plan for the day was.  Periwinkle giggled and pulled out a poster that made him laugh.

Stinky said he always looked forward to reminiscing about the year's adventures, so the two sat down at the computer to look back on 2025.  "We sure had a lot of fun Adventures together," said Periwinkle.  She continued, "We started the year at the Space Coast Cats convention." The tabbies were getting tired so they took a nap in a sunpuddle.  They had a niptini to celebrate the New Year since they would be home with their parents and fursibs on New Year's Eve.

"Before you leave, I wanted to share something with you," said Periwinkle

"I wrote a song for you.  I hope you like it. When the clock strikes midnight tomorrow, I will be thinking of you and how much I love you."

"I made two different versions.  If you click, you can see the lyrics!"

"Wow, that was amazing.  Thank you so much, I love you too!!" said Stinky.  They spent time whisker kissing and paw patting and, wishing each other Happy  New Year, Stinky headed home.

Periwinkle and Stinky hope you have a Happy New Year!  They look forward to having lots more Adventures and hope you will join them.
